Master of None

Netflix dropped 10 of these last night.

Just Aziz Ansari playing a less successful version of himself trying to cope with modern life as a 1st generation immigrant in New York. Not ha-ha funny, but definitely a lot of truth to ruminate on as a lite halfdrama. Quite a lot of elder worship which is sweet, and how the relationship with his love interest is built, is definitely an enjoyable little roller coaster, and practically 70 percent of the greater story.

It's good, not great, but I found that I'd watched ten of them in a day so I was definitely enjoying myself watching Aziz poke fun at the accepted conventions cleverly. Maybe I enjoyed it wrong but I did enjoy myself, and it didn't matter that it wasn't LOL funny.

Any one watching?

(Jack of All trades, Master of None. It took me two episodes before I got that.)

Cute.

On going work/love-life running in the background of his neurotic just-turned-30 shtick. Thankfully significantly toned down from Tom Haverford (nice in smaller doses, would have killed this) or his manic stand-up, offering up a burgeoningly complex man-child.

Watched it in two evening sittings, with the romantic sub plot feeling more genuine than most of the recent Hollywood Rom-Com offerings.

Look forward to more, preferably with more emphasis on his friends, who at this stage are just outward manifestations of his negative traits (though softened to likeability) and could be so much richer.

And a second film with H Jon Benjamin, who kills it as the exhausted character actor.

7/10

Hugo - and where is my damned chicken and broccoli?!

I thought the first episode was pretty meh. I think a lot of missed opportunity for humor. A lot of deescalation of humor and tension happened, and his character... meh. It's like nothing mattered to him for more than a second.

I might watch the second, but, unless it's a work of genius, a big pass.
