This is a very nice introduction to your character, working in details of a new species and setting up an interesting premise. I'd happily read more

I like it. Sadal, cynical and haughty at the same time. So at the end when the message gets his attention, it's a big deal. Also a little scary, seeing what little we did of his reduced abilities due to the "testing," It doesn't seem like a breakaway group of his people are going to be fun to deal with.

Also, good hints at backstory using character interactions. Nice. And not done with lots of exposition or "as you know Jane..." dialogue.
