wegotthiscovered is a terrible site for Star Trek news, or tv/movie news in general. They constantly publish unverified rumors from places like 4chan. I would take no stock in this.

Avery has stayed far away from Trek for years. Why would he come back now.

If it had been a different website publishing this story, I might give it some credence. We Got This Covered is too unreliable.

I don't think his next meal is a problem for him. He's had a lot of work over the years. Also his wife has been a dean at Rutgers. On the plus side, that means if he does another Star Trek project, that will mean he thinks it's worth while artistically, not just a pay check.

I'd watch it if it happened. I'd even pay for it as it was streamed, unlike most of the new Star Trek projects. But I'm not getting my hopes up yet.

We know Brooks saw the DS9 documentary, even if he didn't participate. Maybe that changed his mind? He wasn't that happy with the DS9 final episode, so maybe he wants to finish Sisko's story?

He would be most welcome, if it happened.

Not wanting to participate in nostalgia or fandom really can't be equated with being unwilling to do more acting in the franchise. He's a peculiar man, and tends to interact with fans differently from other actors. On the other hand, he's intensely interested in acting as a craft and how he can use it to improve the image of people of color. Behr himself has reported that Brooks had asked if there was some way of doing something more with DS9 in the last ten years. I have to believe that Brooks would return if the story were meaningful.

Avery coming back in one of Sid's audio plays or in an officially licensed audiobook is what I would be hoping for. Just make a whole episode of him as some abstract experience in the Prophets realm set against a simple background and bring in other actresses or actors from the franchise as his mind reaches out to them. Get Terry, Penny, Cirroc, Nana and cast some new actress as his now grownup daughter. Or don't. :)

How many dead people ever stay dead in Star Trek?
It wouldn't surprise me if Sisko drags Shaxs back out through the wormhole and deposits him somewhere convenient with some Siskonian upbraiding before going back to the prophets

I know Brooks loves the theater but according to this website his most recent theater credit was from 2010. His last screen credit seems to be The Captains in 2011. He also didn't participate in What We Left Behind. I hope he's just retired and not ill, but whatever the reason, I think it unlikely that he will be returning to play Captain Sisko.

I would be happy to see him return and the best way to do that is with a good story that appeals to his sensibilities as a director and actor. I'd love to see him return as a full-on movement leader for the marginalized, which I think would be very politically current.

He wasn't dead though, but rather gone to another state of existence, if anything he'd probably be on the books as the Federation Ambassador to the Prophets, the door was always open to him to return.

I don't recall reading anything to support this, but I can well imagine Avery Brooks not caring for the ending of DS9.

As far as Sisko's fate was concerned, and leaving Jake behind, it replayed "The Visitor" in a way didn't it? And Brooks' big thing was going against the trope of absentee black father figures. Sure enough Jake was basically a man now, but it did sour the other story and resolving it runs the risk of repeating that alternate future.
