Avengers TV show on ABC?

According to Deadline, ABC and Marvel's TV division are considering an Avengers-themed show set in the movie universe, but without the big movie characters.

Wow. That would be really cool! It could introduce characters like Mar-Vell, Carol Danvers, She-Hulk, Luke Cage and others into the MCU without having to have them in a movie, which I would rather largely focus on the "main" cast anyway.

The propsed Alias adaptation that didn't get made was also supposed to be set in the MCU. I wonder if this is why that idea was abandoned.

Who would you assemble for your TV team?

The characters you mention seem pretty good. I've heard Iron Fist and Luke Cage mentioned quite a bit. I wouldn't mind seeing the Jessica Drew Spider-Woman. I'm wondering if this does actually end up on TV how much it would tie into the movies. Personally, I hope they make it fairly close to the movies, with stuff from the movies tying into the events of the show.

I would imagine that some sort of SHIELD based show would be the easiest way to do this, rather than focussing on superpowered beings. Though ABC was also supposed to be developing a Hulk tv show. Of course, this was before the big green man became such a star in The Avengers and appeared to give his cinematic career a much-needed boost.

Over the years, I've heard many people saying that they'd like to see a sort of 'Gotham PD' tv show, set in the world of Batman but dealing with ordinary cops in an extraordinary city. This could be something similar, but dealing with spies and secret agents and set in the Marvelverse, obviously. No doubt there will have to be some super-powered folk but none of the big guns from the movie, I'd imagine.

That would be pretty cool actually. I could see them just bringing in the superheroes as guest stars every now and then.

My main cast would include about 3-4 "super hero characters + a SHIELD commander of the group. That character could be brand new in the vein of Coulson.
I think She-Hulk is a character best left as an introduction in, hopefully, a second Incredible Hulk film. That would be a big lure + she is an integral support cast character. Ms.Marvel is big enough to have her own film or introduction in an Avengers film.

My regular superheroes would be:
Luke Cage
Spider-woman (Jessica Drew)
Shang-Chi
Moon Knight

I choose Luke Cage for his strength and leadership capabilites + he's black
I choose Spider-woman for her Hydra ties, is a "spider" character + she's a woman
I choose Shang-Chi for international flair and martial arts + he's asian
I choose Moon Knight cause comic fans have long wanted a Batman type on TV, he also serves as a street connection, shadowy figure + one white male.

A lineup like this gives lots of angles to play to, is diverse and expands more characters into the mainstream.

Then during "sweeps months" you bring in Hercules (fill the Thor role for a bit), Echo, Machine Man (assuming they save Vision for movies) perhaps USAgent even and thats just for starters for the first few years. You wouldn't want to overdue it.
Storylines that eventually have Ronin, could feed from Shang-Chi or Jack Russell the Werewolf by Night stemming from Moon Knight (you need a Halloween themed episode at some point right?).

How many more years does How I Met Your Mother have left? By the time this actually gets made, Cobie Smulders might be available to play Maria Hill. It would help cement her as the new "bridge" character ala Coulson for "Phase 2".

There were talks of a Mockingbird series at one point, did that fall through? I didn't really care for the concept-- more like "Felicity" as a spy, and would much rather see the character here. She would bg a perfect fit as she has ties to both SHIELD and the Avengers.

^ I'm not sure if anything new has been said about that possible ABC Family series, beyond its initial development announcement by Jeph Loeb last year.

Great Lakes Avengers...ASSEMBLE.

"I've got an army."

"We've got a Big Bertha."

Next Week: The GLA tries to stop Asian Carp from invading Lake Michigan.

Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Misty Knight, and Collen Wing are the HEROES FOR HIRE. All kinds of characters can be brought in either as eventual team members or just one-offs hired from one mission.

The interesting thing here - didn't Marvel re-obtain all television rights for their characters (including live action)? This could be a vehicle for them to incorporate elements from things like Fantastic Four , X-men and Spider-man.

I'm waiting for someone to ask whether or not John Steed and Emma Peel will be on the show.

After the last attempt it's better for everyone involved if the movie companies stayed the hell away from that show.

At this point, Avengers superheroes have SURPASSED Avengers spies in popularity. The one with the superheroes made 1.4 billion! :p

Perhaps. But the spies were "extraordinary."

For the comic book TV show, how about Ant-Man and Wasp? Two of my favorite Avengers.

For television, I imagine they will want to do abilities that can be easily handled on the small screen. While green screen can handle much of the growing and shrinking effects, they will need props that demonstrate the size perspective. And those aren't just lying around anywhere. And what may exist in oversized props are decades out of style, and useless anyway.

There's a movie of Ant-Man coming, directed by Edgar Wright. While his first drafts did not include any referrence to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, chances are well this has changed, and there's even a rumor Wright will shoot the post-credits sequence of 'Iron Man 3', leading up to his movie.
