Avengers Assemble / Agents of SMASH / Ultimate Spider-Man

What is your opinion of the new wave of Marvel cartoons?

I enjoy watching them, but I don't care for the way they're made so childish. The whole talking to the camera thing is particularly annoying. The one thing I do enjoy about them is they're all team up shows, so there's always a lot of character and color in frame at any moment. But they never tell stories of meaning or substance.

I'm also getting really sick of them constantly re-running the Avengers movie in their content. This week's episode featured... a Chitauri invasion of Manhattan! And they had to shoot a missile through the portal to close it!

I'm starting to re-watch Avengers Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and while at the time it felt a little superficial action-y, looking back on it it was a very good and serious take on Avengers lore while at the same time having a sense of humor. The Wasp is adorable!

I haven't seen it recently but I remember Spectacular Spider-Man being the best animated Spidey series ever.

Of the new shows I would rank them Avengers > Spidey > Hulk.

They're all pretty mediocre, but from what I've seen, Avengers Assemble is the weakest, and, yes, the most shallowly imitative. I'm not watching any of them regularly. Given that Paul Dini is involved in at least two of them, you'd think they'd be more worthwhile, but they're not.

With Marvel animation being monopolized by this rather dull, kiddified continuity, and with Cartoon Network seemingly trying to kill off any serious DC superhero shows in favor of stuff like Teen Titans Go!, it's starting to look to me like the age of quality superhero animation on television is coming to an end. And I'm not usually the type to make such doomsaying statements. But it seems the networks are determined to target young viewers exclusively with this stuff, with older-skewing superhero animation becoming limited to DVD releases. Which is ironic given that superhero comics today are almost exclusively aimed at older readers and unsuitable for children.

I don't watch SMASH or USM but I am watching Avengers Assemble but I'm not sure why. It seems like every episode is just one long fight scene. It's just guys in costumes beating up other costumed guys...boring.

all three of these are pretty terrible. SMASH is like Looney Toons but with Hulk. Ultimate Spidey is so ADHD it makes me crazy. Avengers Assemble is just plain terrible. its a shame the previous Avengers toon was scrapped to make way for this travesty.

My biggest regret is EMH never got to do the Civil War. I loved seeing adaptations of recent stories like Secret Invasion and New Avengers.

I really wanted to like Avengers Assemble and Ultimate Spider-Man, but I could barely get through a few episodes. I haven't even bothered with Agents of S.M.A.S.H.
