Authors that write specific characters the best

Are there any authors that you find capture a specific character the best?

I’m not near as well read as everyone else here so not many come to mind except I thought Diane Duane captured Captain Kirk’s jovial side excellently (insert obligatory comment about how it’s better than SNW Kirk here.)

I haven’t read much of their work but I thought JM Dillard did great with Worf in resistance and Una McCormack’s Beverly was definitely a highlight in Brinkmanship.

Well, the only real definitive answer to this question is Una McCormack and Garak. There's really no other author that I completely associate with one character the way I do her with Garak.

I would have said that in a heartbeat, JD, except for the writing of Andrew Robinson. Twin thrones, perhaps?

KRAD definitely has Klag as a signature character.

You cite Diane Duane's Kirk, but I say her McCoy is PHENOMENAL. It's clear that she loves his character and also GETS him. I would love a new Trek novel from her in any series, but a TOS would have me over the moon because it would mean she's writing McCoy again. I mean, The Romulan Way and Doctor's Orders in particular are novel length hymns to him getting to be his most awesome self (Romulan Way features what I tend to call "Kangaroo court meets Southern filibuster - filibuster wins."), and despite Spock's World being about Vulcan in general, he still gets one of his best speeches when he speaks against Vulcan leaving the Federation.
