Atlantis - New BBC Series

Relayer1

It starts tomorrow and looks like it had a decent budget.

Unfortunately, it happily describes itself as a 'mash up' of Greek myths and reminds me of both Sinbad and Merlin, which I liked the look of but detested when I actually got to see them. Here's hoping that Atlantis is rather better.

Anyone else going to watch it ?

Awesome. I loved Merlin and I've been wondering what BBC was going to replace it with.

Well, this is on rather later than Merlin. I don't think it is an 'adult' series but it may be a little harder edged than it's predecessor.

i'm a sucker for anything even remotely related to Atlantis so i'll check this out.

Hercules was great in this. "I'm not fat, I'm powerfully built. I'm just big boned." Not sure about the rest of it yet, but I'll probably give the second episode a go.

That was fun. Nothing spectacular, but fun. Mark Addy completely stole the show. I'm looking forward to episode 2.

I've often wondered what Thera might have looked like a long time ago.

Now if you have a cycle of collapse eruption, rebuilding, and collapse, that might allow for circular rings. Mazama formed Crater Lake, and if Wizard island collapsed, there may be an even smaller lake, etc.

There are shallow craters known as Maar craters:

We see different types of eruptions--Vesuvius had lava flows in WWII, and was a bit less explosive, so...who knows?

Now and then, islands do rise

I assume Jason will turn out to be Theseus and he will be revealed as the real heir to Atlantis, rather than Athens. Jason and Theseus were very similar characters in Greek mythology so conflating the two makes sense, even if it would make the Medea relationship potentially too complex for early evening TV.

That was an odd beast. I can't believe how much stuff they threw at us in the first episode and it did seem to be made for the ADHD generation, and that has to be the easiest Minotaur kill ever

Still there was something about it suggesting potential so I'll keep watching for the mo.
