Atlantis and SGU Swapover?

Crewman47

Commodore
Newbie
Becuase neither expedition knew what to fully expect initially in their intended destination, what if the situations were swapped where the Atlantis expedition ended up on Destiny and the Icarus team were sent to Atlantis, how would each handle the situation?

Just to be clear we're keeping the same continuity but the address found in Atlantis episode 1 for Atlantis would now be for Destiny, (still an 8 chevron address), and the address found for the then unknown Destiny in SGU episode 1 would instead go to Atlantis (again using the 9 chevron address) and going from there.

We can do the comparison with our without the additional plot points of each series, the Wraith, Asurans, Blue Aliens communication stones etc and deal with just the city/ship itself.

Are the circumstances still the same? Did Sheppard, Weir, McKay and the gang go to Destiny fully prepared for the long haul? Did Young and Rush and the gang flee Icarus to Atlantis with nothing of importance for survival?

In the case of having SGA characters in Destiny, they'd have naquadah generators with them, so the power demands would be non-existent. I'm sure fixing the life support would be no problem for McKay and Zelenka. And since they would have brought a lot of rations with them the quest for food and water wouldn't be as much of a priority. McKay would likely discover the bridge, plot his own course for Destiny and possibly find a way to be in contact with Earth by the end of the first half of the season.

The SGU characters being sent to Atlantis, if indeed they are escaping an attack than they'd have no naquadah generators and no way to power the city. There'd be panic when they first notice the city is submerged and the shield is about to fail, but after it rises Young would probably blame Rush for "knowing all along." They wouldn't have to worry about water, and depending on whether anyone has the ATA gene, flying a jumper to the mainland should take care of food.

^ Assuming that Young would tend to stay in Atlantis as opposed to leading off-world missions himself as he tends to do on Destiny, Scott would be captured by the Wraith when visiting the Athosians. Greer would lead the rescue team but would be too damn stubborn to consider leaving Scott behind, leading to everyone on the team being captured and/or killed. With no way to power the city, Young and the rest would be overrun by a Wraith attack, who would then have control over Atlantis and knowledge of Earth as a new feeding ground. The Wraith would then bring in their own power generators, reverse engineer Lantean technology, work the upgrades onto some hive ships, and set course for Earth. Prometheus, Daedalus (if in service by the time the Wraith arrived), and O'Neill in the Ancient outpost would do their best to hold back the Wraith assault but Earth would eventually fall to the Wraith, who would then continue to spread across the Milky Way Galaxy.

They would truly have been "the wrong people" for the job. ;)

Meanwhile, McKay would have Destiny under control before dinner time, all the while spouting sarcastic remarks at once both funnier and more clever than anything Rush ever said. Next, McKay would manage to get the gate to connect back to Earth, so by the end of the first season, they'd have established a supply line to Earth, and everything would be peaches.

I actually think that SGU would benefit immensely from bringing on Sheppard as the commanding officer to replace Young. Sheppard wouldn't take any crap from anyone, and he's probably be able to bring the civilian and military factions under control fairly quickly. Plus, I want to see his Cash poster put up on Destiny's wall.

Actually, while thinking the matter of SGU character on Atlantis over, a thought occurred. It was Janus who programmed the city to automatically rise when the ZPMs were depleted after meeting Weir from the timeline where the shields failed and the city flooded. So unless someone activated the Time Jumper and went back in time (which is also contingent on if anyone has the ATA gene), the SGU characters would likely be killed nearly right away upon arriving Atlantis.

For that matter, if SGA characters were on Destiny, or it the very least if Sheppard were there, maybe they could use Johnny Cash songs for the montages. Hey, it worked in Vegas...

Rush isn't fool enough to have tried gating to an unknown ancient city/ship/facility in the first episode without having someone with the ATA gene.

Mega dittos on the Cash songs!
