At Last New Bed Linens!

I went shopping for new bed linen today...found 400 count cotton sheets for $24.99! YES! I am sleeping in luxury tonight! Had money left over, given that price, for a whole new comforter set too! Yes! Yes! Yes! My...God...it's like sleeping in a cloud! I've not slept in sheets of this high a thread count in years.

I don't even know what my bedsheets are made out of. I do know that it's the *mattress* that's more important to how I sleep (or lack thereof - I have a fair amount of insomnia, although that's got nothing to do with the bed).

It's so hot here in the summer anyway... I use very little in the way of bed sheetings at this time of year.

My bed sits across from the central air vent, and these get really cool really fast.

(Snuggles). Aaaah.

I too have insominia. Ambien is my friend.

I did do the sleepwalking thing once, but I didn't do anything like drive to the store. I just got up and ate a bowl of cereal.

I did have a friend one time who stayed with me overnight on my couch who got sick. He got up and went to my bathroom sink and vomited. He even cleaned it up. I asked him if was okay, and he sorta looked through me (you know that glassy eyed sleepwalker look), and said nothing. He then walked back to the den and got on the couch and went fast asleep. The next morning he told me that he didn't remember doing that at all.

I have a friend who uses Halcion...now that's a bad drug. I was there 3 weeks ago, and he took it. He later asked about the other people who were there, and today mentioned it and swears that we had some sort of wild party at his place, etc., but then says that he hardly remembers that weekend. It's very confusing for me to follow. I think he's gotten hooked on it, because when I looked it up online, it said that if you have hallucinations you should discontinue it immediately. Obviously, he has them, but he's still on it - and he's a nurse. I'm very concerned for him right now on the one hand and very angry on the other because he says he's afraid to be around me - like I did something to him or something.

Have you ever tried t-shirt or jersey sheets? They are very soft, and you can often find inexpensive sheet sets at stores like Target or WalMart. More expensive sets are available through catalog stores like LandsEnd. My husband prefers jersey sheets during the summer and flannel during the winter. Except when we travel, we rarely sleep on percale sheets. I congratulate you on your nice sheets, though. Although I agree the mattress is more important, nice sheets on a good mattress are lovely.

Halcion has fallen out of favor because of the side effects some people experience, and some of the side effects make me wonder why it's still on the market. Ambien & Lunesta seem to have fewer effects, but I wonder if it's because they (particularly Lunesta) have been around on the market less time.

Luxury bed linen is the awesome. It only gets even softer/silkier with age/laundry. I like my Peter Reed sheets which are now about 5 or 6 years old and still fabulous.

Oh I'm jealous! I need new bed linen now. I love the feeling of sleeping in a cloud :) Enjoy

Is that 400 threads per square inch or per square centimeter? If that count is per centimeter, that is incredible. Must feel heavenly!

Edit: Dense moment there, I think it must be physically impossible to have 400 per square cm in cotton. Someone will probably chime in and prove me wrong though.

I've had satin for the past 3 years or so. One complete set and various loose items that I mix and match in with that. It behaves a bit differently than conventional bedding, such as pillows and duvet having a tendency to slip around easily. I wouldn't go back to ordinary cotton. It's a much nicer feel, and worth the extra expense. :)

^ My aunt gave me a black and red set when I was younger. Got old and tatty after a few years and I had to let it go. I do remember loosing my pillow a number of nights. Wonderful for the skin though. I wouldn't mind trying it again. Right now, we use 450 threads per square inch cotton. Cotton seems to be a little cooler in the summer, and a little warmer in the winter.

You people are making me jealous. I bought some new sheets recently, but they were nothing special--180 count, poly/cotton. I didn't even pay attention to the thread count when I bought them--just the colour.

Apparently, this whole thread count thing is a nonsense anyway, and a way for the major shops to scam you. The thread count can be inflated by their twisting together discarded, short, frayed, cotton yarn, which is of a lower quality. They then quadruple the count on that basis. After that, the workmanship and the way it is finished makes a great deal of difference. It is actually possible to have a lighter, stronger, smoother, cotton in a 180 count, and have it outstrip a supposed 1000 count in longevity and feel. This is because they might have used longer, superior quality yarn, which has been finished properly to stop it bobbling or wearing too quickly after multiple use and washes, and is then able to absorb and retain dyes better, too.

So really, the only way to tell is touch, a nice close-up look, and make a guess, then only time will tell. Unless you buy from a recognised reputable luxury dealer and leave an arm and a leg with them. Either way, I wouldn't be disappointed with your own Camelopard, they might prove to be superior to many others.

I tend to react badly to certain cotton/poly bedsheets. My worst experience involved a heavily dyed dark blue bedsheet (a gift from New Zealand - and I like the colour of dark blue) which stained my skin and took weeks to wash off, staining the bath in the process. Had a similar experience to a red colour scheme I bought last year from ASDA (chose red as a complete change of style, to see if I liked it - red isn't my favourite colour). Not nearly as bad, though.
I find who you sleep with is more important than what you are sleeping on. :)

Who says you can't sleep on who you're sleeping with? Problem solved. :D
What if you sleep on a large pile of money? :bolian:

You mean to say that your skin secretes a solvent for aniline dyes? Or is it just down to a lot of erm.. friction?

My skin has various unique properties that cannot be explained. I don't think I'm entirely human. Or clean. :(
Or is it just down to a lot of erm.. friction?
I have no idea what you could mean. [She means restlessness while you sleep - someone] Oh, that.
