A Fort Myers principal involved Lee County sheriff’s deputies in an elementary school crush.

Deputies were dispatched Wednesday to Orange River Elementary School in reference to what Assistant Principal Margaret Ann Haring called a “possible sex crime” — two students kissing.

“This incident is more of a simple assault, though by definition there would have to be a victim,” Sgt. Stephanie Eller said.

Haring told deputies she had two students, both under 12, who kissed while in physical education class, reports said. Haring said one of them was debating about who liked who more.

It sounds like schools need their own on site police departments to handle such cases.

Whenever someone says, "Now I've heard everything" you just know it's not true. 'Cause something ridiculous like this will always pop up to prove them wrong.

I shudder to think of what a weak-willed, easily bruised society we will have several generations from now. I can't think of anything I used to do at school for fun that wouldn't be banned now.

Anyone ever play British Bulldogs? ;) (aka Octopus, Seaweed, Bullies or Bullrush.)

Not really, apart from people switching 'teams'. After Googling, it seems British Bulldogs never really took off in America, mostly being in UK, Oz, and Canada.

I must admit though, in regards to the original post; even though I was getting my ass whupped during rough games in primary school, I didn't get to kiss a girl until secondary school...so maybe it's more dangerous than I realised? ;)

Now, i admit, i'm not well versed in US law. But how is this illegal? I mean, if it warrants calling coppers on them, it must be.

Why am I not surprised to see this occurred in Florida?

My first thought was "Fucking Florida, it's always fucking Florida"

He needs to get anally violated, or groped by a homeless guy at the intersection, then he'll realize what sexual assault is.

Nah, cops can be called for just about anything, although why they'd show up for this is beyond me.

When I was a kid, students were having sex in the supply closet, 10 miles uphill each way, or something.

It would be nice if ALL the relevent details were out before people pass judgment:

A school department in Florida is trying to clarify a kissing incident that occurred last week at an elementary school. The Lee County Public Schools said Tuesday that while police were called to the Orange River Elementary School in Fort Myers, Fla., it stemmed from information that came to light while talking to students about a kissing incident.
Two female students were fighting over who liked a 12-year-old boy more, and and at that point, one of the girls walked over and kissed the boy. The school spoke with the students about the incident and that is when other information was revealed and officials were contacted.
The school department says that police and Florida Dept. of Children and Families (DCF) were called to the school after information about a separate, non-school related situation was brought to their attention, unrelated to the students kissing. It is procedure to involve children's services when certain information is discovered.

That's why I usually hold off on discussing these things for a few days (especially when it sounds dubious like this), because some extra bit of important information inevitably surfaces once you get past the articles looking for a more sensationalistic angle on the story.

So, common sense is still in the building.

Good to know there's more to the story than was first reported. I guess school officials in Florida aren't dicks after all, even though their state is shaped like one.
