Assignment Earth

I was watching the episode "Assignment Earth," and was wondering why Spock didn't use the Vulcan neck pinch on Ms. Lincoln so she wouldn't call the police? He had tried to do it on Gary Seven but it didn't work. And he did it later on the security guard at the command center.

He had no way of knowing whether she had the same training Gary Seven had, and probably assumed she had been sent along with him, or even before. Since it didn't work on Seven, it likely wouldn't work on anyone else with his training either.

I was wondering that too. But he could have at least tried.
And could somebody please explain how the deflector shields would make the ship invisible? I can understand a radar beam being absorbed or scattered. But a ship a big as the Enterprise in orbit would be visible. If I can see the ISS with the naked eye just after sunset or before sunrise passing overhead. Then a 1000 foot long ( and more reflective) starship would be easily seen.

Not all orbits are the same. The ISS can be seen with the naked eye because it moves across the sky (i.e. it's not in geosync). We also don't know how high the Enterprise's orbit was in the episode. They could also have also relied on no one looking for something they wouldn't be expecting to be there.

The ISS is about 100 miles up, maybe a little more. While there is no line of dialog to that effect, the FX make it pretty plain that standard orbit is about 20,000 miles out.

Never thought of that. SB! But I think Zarabeth's skin looks a lot cleaner and thicker and The Yang woman didn't have them fur boots did she?

When they got to the cave she took that stuff off. What she had underneath was the original leather bikini, with the skirt/coverup attachment.

A few factors to consider

Would you know to look for the ISS if you didn''t know it was there?

If the Enterprise was in geostationary orbit, there would be no movement to detect

Not to mention the sky is rather large, even if you hada telescope you would have to be somewhat lucky to pick that particualr object to look at and see it was a ship.

Spock may have simply been too much of a gentleman to employ the neckpinch on a woman, if he could, in any way, avoid it. Sulu, also, proved reticent to shoot a woman, in "That Which Survives." It just wasn't done ...

D'Amato also froze when Losira surprised him and he got whacked. I guess if you suspect an alien woman is going to totally disrupt your cell structure you'd better shoot first and ask questions later. :ack:
