Articles of the Federation?

A quick question I am on A time to Kill when do I read AOTF?

- A Time to Kill by David Mack
- A Time to Heal by David Mack
- A Time for War, A Time for Peace by Keith R.A. DeCandido
- Titan: Taking Wing by Michael A. Martin & Andy Mangels (skippable if you want)
- Articles of the Federation by Keith R.A. DeCandido

I've already read all the Titan novels but thanks. So it takes place after Taking Wing?

It takes place across an entire year, and yes it begins very shortly after "Taking Wing", and some of its subplots build on the political situation established in that novel. :)

Sci listed what is pretty much the "essential" books leading into Articles, the "previously on Star Trek..." if you will....;)

Articles was a good read, really enjoyed the characters, especially Pres. Bacco. Always hoped for a second book.

Articles of the Federation is one of the best trek books out there. Hopefully we get another one like it one of these days. I'd just be happy getting another KRAD treklit book at some point. From any series really...

I think the lack of KRAD has been one of the most disappointing things about this year and next year's Trek Lit (well, the stuff we know about, I think there might still be a few open spots).

FWIW Keith has some other things coming out recently or in the near future:

His first Dungeons and Dragon novel Under the Crimson Sun was released earlier this month.

Unicorn Precinct, the follow-up to his Dragon Precinct novel is out now for Kindle and will be released in other eFormats, on paper, and as an audiobook soon.

There will also be a Tales from Dragon Precinct in 2012, which will collect all DP short stories published so far alongside some new ones.

And he will also write a novel in the Scattered Earth universe, which will be published at the end of this year.

And then there are of course his Farscape comics.

Definitely agree that TrekLit desperately needs more KRAD, though.

I'm actually hoping to go back and finish Farscape (I was watching it on Netlflix, but I decided to cut back to just one show, and Pusing Daisies was that show. The last season of Farscape is my next pick.), so I can read the comics. I'm a huge Farscape fan, but I wanted to wait and rewatch the show before I did the comics, because I haven't seen it since it originally aired and I don't remember it that well.

All Trek books written before AoTF lead to AoTF and all book written after AoTF come from the road created by AoTF.

How are Federation politicians portrayed in this?

Is this The Wire or the West Wing.

The Nixon Tapes or the Moon Landing?

It's definitely a West Wing/Moon landing feel. The Federation isn't perfect, and there has been corruption at the highest levels at times, but President Bacco is on the whole a good and decent Federate.

Too bad finding a new copy of AoTF is next to impossible. At least the last time I looked.

I'm also on the last book of A Time To... I was planning on just skipping to the next book in the TNG series.

Because the novel hasn't been reprinted since its first printing (as it did not sell enough to justify another printing), I'm afraid that the copies that were printed have been rendered quite valuable to those wishing to buy a copy.

However, one can always purchase an ebook version of Articles of the Federation for the standard price.

KRAD? You out there? Working on anything new?
Defcon covered most of it.

Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Sun: Under the Crimson Sun is out now -- it's part of Wizards of the Coast's big-ass "Abyssal Plague" event across several D&D worlds.

Unicorn Precinct is out in July (Kindle edition already on sale), the long-awaited sequel to Dragon Precinct (which will be reprinted later this year), and I'm under contract to do Goblin Precinct and a short-story collection called Tales from Dragon Precinct for 2012. The latter will be half reprints, half original stories.

I'm right now as I type this putting the finishing touches on Super City Police Department: The Case of the Claw, which will be out in digital form in the next couple of months from Crossroad Press.

I've been invited to join the Scattered Earth party -- a shared-world science fiction universe created by Aaron Rosenberg, Steven Savile, and David Niall Wilson, my novel in that milieu (tentatively titled Guilt in Innocence, Innocence in Guilt) should be out in the fall, if not sooner.

If the SCPD book does well, I'm going to do a second book for 2012, and I've got two other possibilities with tie-in lines I've never worked in before (both based on TV shows, FWIW) that I'm waiting to hear word on. And there may be more Scattered Earth as well......

So I'm keeping busy. :D

Sci speaks truth. Sadly, even I can't get any more print copies.....

I just bought AOTF from abebooks, it was not cheap (not that expensive either) but it still can be found.

Too bad you're not working on any Trek right now, KRAD, but good to know you're career is going so well!
