Are there people who are JJ-Trek fans but don’t like the rest of Star

Are there JJ Trek Fans?

Not “does anyone like this?” I know lots of people who like Star Trek ’09. (Me.) I know people who like Into Darkness. (Not me.)

I mean like this: There are Star Trek: The Next Generation fans. They don’t like TOS. They’re not crazy about DS9. Don’t even mention Enterprise.

There are some who write things like “Star Trek: 1966-1979”.

Are there people that are nerds enough to come to places like this that only like the JJ version of Star Trek?

Just curious.

Agreed. I know at least one person who likes the new films but isn't generally a Star Trek fan, just a Hollywood blockbuster fan and as such, unlikely to join a Trek forum. Heck, I'm a lifelong Trekkie, nearly 33, had internet access for some years and until recently never thought to look for a forum like this.

There are, in all likelihood, hundreds of thousands. Half my friends had their first taste of Trek with 09, and only half of them have gone and looked back and really gotten into the franchise... but all of them have gladly lined up for STID and look forward to STB. It's a very, very common thing with people, especially those under 30 or so, I reckon.

There are, in all likelihood, hundreds of thousands. Half my friends had their first taste of Trek with 09, and only half of them have gone and looked back and really gotten into the franchise... but all of them have gladly lined up for STID and look forward to STB. It's a very, very common thing with people, especially those under 30 or so, I reckon.

I'm still surprised that many of the younger Abramsverse fans got into General Trek via JJ. At least that's what I read while searching the different threads here.

It may be that many of them have had friends who have sort of helped push them into giving the Primeverse a try. I know that's the case on my end, anyway; I've gotten folks situated, warned them how uneven Trek can be, guided them toward material I've surmised is more up their alley if they're struggling with whatever they've started. The usual.

Sure there are.

But I doubt most of them are as into JJ Trek as we are into our Treks. They'll excitedly go see the films in the theaters but I doubt 30 years from now they'll be cosplaying Zachary Quinto.

I've a feeling most fans of Prime Trek don't cosplay Leonard Nimoy either. I've been a fan for nearly 50 years and have never cosplayed any character.

I usually cosplay original characters. I'm working on a a steampunk/Western version of the nuTrek uniforms.

Oh, and my wife, but she is not big in to discussing all the details on forums like this. But, she has enjoyed Star Trek more now that she has scene Abrams Trek.

I'm sure it's gotten to the point where there are not only fans of JJ Trek over Prime Trek, but that their preferred Enterprise is the JJPrise.

And there's nothing wrong with that, really. My initial favorite is the Enterprise Refit, but that was also the first ship I came to watch. Trek is kind of like Doctor Who or James Bond in that regard, in that sometimes your first encounter becomes your favorite version.

I imagine to an AbramsTrek fan, liking Star Trek is no different than loving Avengers or loving Jurassic World. They love what's currently in the theaters. Once it is not popular, they will not like it anymore.

I'm sure the majority of "BennettTrek" fans were the same. They enjoyed the films when they first saw them and then moved on to what was next. The hardcore, life long fans of most properties are a minority. For all the fans posting on internet, going to cons and writing fanfic there are hundreds and possibly thousands of fans who just see the films, from any decade, as a fun movie they watched. Trying to paint "AbramsTrek" fan as unique in this attitude come across as a variation of the "True Fan" argument.

I know quite a few people in our immediate group who have seen the new movies and don't like prime trek, but they're not what I would call fans of the franchise, they just happen to like the new ones. I'm sure there's fans of just JJ trek, it's a generational thing almost by default.

I'm not one of those people though. Now where's my trilithium?
