Are any Mac users left on STO?

So I had to take a bit of a hiatus from STO -- due to kids being born, due to working too much, due to needing every gigabyte of space I could get -- but now things are starting to calm down, and I got a new used Mac from eBay that -- in comparison to what I had -- is a powerhouse, and what's the first thing I decide to do: get back into STO...

And that's when I found out they discontinued the Mac client... early last year. :sigh:

I saw on Google some articles about WINE and Crossover and I did try them back in the day -- before the official Mac client -- and they were really really bad... Like jagged edges in the video, FUBAR text effects, and crashes. The game was almost unplayable...

Now my question is this: are there any Mac users left on STO? Are you guys all using WINE or Crossover or some other method (anything but Boot Camp or VMs)? How's the experience?

    Thanks!

Well, after doing a bit of research -- I settled for PlayOnMac. The game is downloading as I write this and appears to look pretty much identical in quality to what the "real" Mac version had years ago. So I'm not dissatisfied... yet.

I'm trying PlayOnMac because reviews for WINE and Crossover were pretty mixed, even though all three are based on similar tech. If this fails, I might just have to bite the bullet and install a virtual machine with Windows. It's not like I don't have the RAM to spare, but I really hate the idea of polluting my new system with Microsoft software.

Anyway, I got 11GB out of 14GB so far... I'll let you know how it goes...

Well, if anybody's interested -- since I appear to be talking to myself -- my first test was a spectacular failure. Turns out that WINE -- the underlying tech on which PlayOnMac is based -- doesn't properly support DirectX10 or 11 (yet), and Cryptic cut off compatibility with DirectX9 a few months ago. So, that route was a waste of time. Back to the drawing board.

I'm paying attention, but I gave up on STO before the Mac client was discontinued, was vaguely interested in checking out the visual revamp after I got a new computer, and then saw the Mac client was gone and fan ports were failing, and decided I didn't care for the game enough to go for extraordinary measures. There are plenty of things I liked more that I won't install Bootcamp for.

Yeah, I won't install Bootcamp. There's no way I'm dual booting just for a game -- any game. I may opt to install VMWare if I can't make any more progress with emulation.

Anyway, thanks for replying. I appreciate that.

I have a MacBook Pro and did try and run it a couple of years ago, with zero success.

Now I just use my PS4 instead.
