I was thinking about TV's and I am wondering is 60" TV big enough or 50" (Most are usually 52"/55")TV be big enough or maybe bigger like 65" +...Does one need a TV that big to enjoy shows & movies???

As a side question LED LCD the way to go over regular LCD or Plasma TV's?

Thoughts?

There's some rule about screen size in relation to how far away you are planning to sit.

In my view, a 50" set is way over the top and completely unnecessary.

Here's a calculator to figure it out.

That calculator helps out a lot it recommends about 9' for viewing a 60" set...HDTV distance.

[edit] I have been watching stuff on my 19" set...until it broke. :(

I recently bought a 50", and I absolutely love it. The way my living room is setup, you don't even notice how big it is.

Mine is 43 inches and I sit about 10 feet away. It's made of awesome and angel farts.

As others have said, viewing distance will determine if 60'' is overkill.

I have a 50'' which I think is awesome. It's almost 12 feet from the sofa so it might be nice to have something a little bigger.

Personally I think plasma is the way to go for sets 50'' and larger. The picture quality, color accuracy, response time and black levels are still better than the best LCDs, but of course they draw a good deal more power. An 50'' LED TV probably won't draw much more than 120 watts whereas a comparable plasma set could draw in excess of 500 watts depending on brightness.

Also, if you go with Plasma, I hope you have air conditioning. The picture on my plasma is so much nicer than the one on my LCD, but it does draw a lot of power, and it produces a lot of heat. I don't have air conditioning, and if I have the TV on for a couple hours, the living room gets really warm.

When I finally upgrade my TV it will by 32" at most. Can't justify anything bigger than that.

I wouldn't get a plasma set.

LED LCD looks nice from what I've seen.

I have a 50 inch flat/plasma screen LG TV and to be honest I wish I'd got a smaller one now. I think a 42 inch would have sufficed.

I have a 42" set and I think it's perfect. I don't really see a need to go much larger than that, unless I move into a house/apartment with a gigantic living room one day.

LED is also about twice as expensive as plasma.

Depending on the model & size...LED can be only a few hundred dollars more...some plasma sets are just as expensive as LED sets the same size...just depends on what you want and how much you can spend.

Panasonic - VIERA / 50" Class / 1080p / 600Hz / Plasma HDTV
Sale: $1,299.99

Sony - BRAVIA 52" Class / 1080p / 120Hz / LED-LCD HDTV
Sale: $1,949.99

at bestbuy.
