Here's my rather uninspired tribute to Arthur C. Clarke:

Starscape - Don't sell yourself short there. It is actually a good idea, given the name of the ship in "2001." I'm actually surprised others didn't think of going this route as well.

The nice thing about this contest/tribute is that we who have no artistic ability but love to see other people's work, are getting a great variety in artwork this month.

Fine job!:techman:

Any reason to show the trusted shuttlecraft is welcome - and your rendition is very beautiful.
A quick googling of Discovery and NCC shows that the registration numbers created by fandom are all over the place, so why not make it even NCC-2001?

It's a very good idea indeed. :) I also like the suggestion to make the registry NCC-2001. (Or how about NCC-9000? ;))

Thanks very much guys! :)

Ideally, I would have like to have entered something more substantially linked to Clarke's work, but I'm not too familiar with his books so I wasn't sure where to start with that. The shuttlecraft was my back-up plan.

Yeah, I thought about making the ship's registry "NCC-2001", but I wanted to keep it in-universe and I tend to think TOS ship registries should stay below 2000. So, I settled on "NCC-1002" which is, of course, "2001" backwards. ;)
