april 17, 1970: Apollo 13 splashes down safely

One of the few times in manned spaceflight that illustrated that the team on the ground can be just as heroic as the guys in the craft.

And that's one of the things I like about Ron Howard's movie. It really points that out, along with just the sheer ingenuity it took for the ground folks to find solutions to some unforseen problems in a timely manner.

Although the mission was a failure, I think Apollo 13 showed America at it's best.

My uncle and I watched the moon landing with me sitting on his knee. He died Nov. 13, 1969. When Apollo 13 disaster happened, I had to watch it scared and alone because no one else cared. I cried for them, I prayed for them... it was all a 10 year old could do, but I did my part.
