Apple release new-look MacBook Air, plus 11" model

Impressive.. Apple truly are the masters of sleek design and marketing. I can see this selling well.

Now i'll just wait until they replace the entire keyboard/touchpad area with an iPad like display so we can have our Star Trek experience and a programmable input area :)

I like it. The smallest one is tempting - I don't need a netbook at all though, so I can't in any way justify buying it.

I already have a MacBook Pro, and I love it. I almost never use the CD-ROM, so I would probably be fine living without one. $999 really isn't a bad price for a MacBook, either.

I dunno. I expect my current MacBook to last a really long time, so I don't feel the need to upgrade. The thing I've learned about MacBooks is that, while the look and feel of the technology changes, the usability doesn't. You don't really get a tremendously improved software experience from one MacBook to another.

I don't use mine that often either, although I know the moment I move away from it...

I wish they'd put a Blu-Ray into their line.

^ I don't either. I buy movies on Blu-Ray for watching *on a TV*. I have no use for Blu-Ray - or, for that matter, any kind of optical drive - on a Mac. The MB Air is a nice start, but I don't want a laptop; my dream machine would be an iMac without an optical drive (but that probably won't ever happen).

It's not bad looking... all my laptops are ultraportables, but my next purchase is going to be a VAIO X... thin like the Air but the battery is removable.

^ I hope so. But lately it seems that the iMac has gotten a bit of a short shrift. There hasn't been a really radical update to the line in quite a while.

I'm very happy with my 17" MacBook Pro but I could see some people wanting a small, light, ultra-portable device. Personally, these are just too small for me. I hate tiny screens. Some people may think my laptop is too big, bulky and heavy but I have no problem carrying it around. I also still have a need for an optical drive from time to time so the MacBook Air really doesn't fit my needs. For the $999 price point, I think I would rather buy the white MacBook - larger screen, optical drive, faster processor, larger hard drive, and longer battery life. It may weigh a bit more but I think it's worth it.

Yes but I author Blu-Ray discs, so it'll be handy for me to ditch my external burner...

I wouldn't see any point in watching a Blu-Ray on a MacBook Pro unless it was the 17" given the screen resolution, but even then we're talking, um, 17 inches...

I can definitely see a noticeable difference between 480p and 720p content on my 13" Macbook Pro when in a comfortable viewing position. 1080p is certainly overkill because the resolution of the LCD doesn't go up that high, but it would still look a lot better then a DVD when it's downscaled to fit.
