Apple Pay

I was wondering what other peoples reaction to this is? I love Apple Pay, it's like the thing you have always been missing without realizing it, kind of like Heated Seats in cars.

I've used Apple Pay a few dozen times already, the more I use it, the more I want to use it. In the beginning few weeks, there was a slow learning curve. Almost every place I went to the cashiers had no clue what it was, but most called their manager and we fumbled our way through it. In only one place was I out right refused by a cashier, saying that it was broken. However she let slip that she didn't know what it was. She should have called over the manager but I didn't want to harass her, plus I was in kind of a hurry. Yes, the reason I use Apple Pay. However since those first few weeks and hiccups, almost everyplace now is prepared and it's not a shock anymore. The longest part about paying is getting my iPhone 6 plus out of my pocket. I also have to say I've adjusted my shopping habits where I can to take advantage of Apple Pay.

More retail locations need to add Apple Pay, ASAP! They are really loosing out by not getting in on this. Apple Pay is truly the first costumer centered technology that gives you the piece of mind about security with ease of use. The one place I would like to see Apple Pay added soon would be Gas Stations. Not those Full Service gas stations in New Jersey but the horrid Self Service gas station like in New York.

Well, businesses certainly wouldn't want to loose costumers.

As for heated car seats... trust me, that's a very regional need :)

Anyway, I guess I just don't get it. Paying for stuff by swiping my card and scribbling an illegible signature is already a 15 second process. I've seen these NFC terminals at stores here and there, the one at Jamba Juice had lots of ISIS branding with theirs which shockingly has changed to something less jihad-y. Maybe I'm missing why Apple Pay is all of a sudden a thing. Best implementation + army of hipsters?

I've never seen it available (and have no idea what it is), but I don't go to fashionable stores and live in a state where the rest of the country thinks it's all cowboys and Indians out here.

I still have a year left on the contract for my iPhone 5s so I can't use Apple Pay yet. But by the time I get a 6, I'd love to start using it...no merchants around here have AP yet, but by that time, I'm sure some will.

Android user. Never seen or heard of Apple Pay.

And I agree with Yoda's assessment of the heated car seat thing, very regional need! Now, if you had a cooled car seat and/or steering wheel, I'd be all over that!

Don't want it, not interested.

I don't want any sort of contactless payment. Putting in a chip and pin card ant entering my 4 digit code may not be infallible, but it will always be a physical level of security ahead of a wireless data stream.

^ But if you have to get out your card at all, there's a chance it could be stolen or have its number taken. With Apple Pay, no one ever SEES your card or its number - not even if they steal your phone (and even then, you should have your phone protected by a passcode and/or Touch ID).

Also, purchases that you make with an actual card - even if it's chip/PIN - can be hacked, because the complete card number is stored. With Apple Pay, each payment generates a one-time code that can't be used again, so hacking it would be effectively useless.

Isn't out here until 2015, and I'm guessing this part of the UK in particular, won't bother until a year after that.

1. You put your card info into your phone.
2. Repeat until you've added all your cards.
3. Select your default card.
4. When you're in a store that has NFC capabilities (most supermarkets). Hold up your iPhone 6 or 6 Plus to the card reader.
5. Apply fingerprint.
6. Done.

There's no pin to copy. No app to fumble around to open. It's automatic. The only unlock is your fingerprint. More secure than a swiping a card.

Same here. I have a year left on my 5S contract, so it's a moot point for now. Seems like a cool technology, especially if it truly is more secure in this age where it feels like every retailer is being hacked.

Now if only they could let you put your driver's license on your iPhone, there would literally be no need for wallets!

Basically, you wave your iPhone in front of a sensor, and you're done.
Ah, I kind of figured that was the case. A neat idea, but not necessarily feasible for all businesses. Implementing something like that where I work would probably cost us about $20,000 just to replace our current equipment.

I know way too many people who lose/break their phones for this to be a good idea.

New Jersey has full-service gas stations? I didn't know they still existed!

Riiiight.

What am I supposed to use then to distract from my natural bulge?

And as someone who checks IDs for a living, putting it on your phone seems like way too easy a way to create forgeries.

I was making a joke. ;)

Wear a codpiece.

I'm pretty sure it's against the law in New Jersey to pump your own gas...or something silly like that.
