Anyone Want to Collaborate?

I'm an aspiring writer that has never had much look in writing prose (I much prefer making movies, or comicbooks if I had an artist), and so I was doing some soul-searching to determine why that was. I realized that the problem with prose is that at the point when I'm actually writing it, there are little to no surprises left in it for me. Like, if I write a Star Trek fanfic, it's because I want to experience some new Trek material, discover some strange new world that hasn't been explored, etc. But when I'm writing it, I've already seen the whole thing in my head and then it's just a monotonous process of recording what I've seen. Whereas, in comicbooks or film, you're presenting a vision which goes to the hands of other artists who help you bring your vision to life. Thus, when I'm making a movie, there's something more for me to experience after writing the script, and it's never quite how I imagined (of course, due to the lack of budget, my short films are never as good as I imagined, but there are always some good little nuggets of ad-lib or on-the-spot brilliance that I wouldn't have thought of until actually filming it). But with prose, I always lose interest because I never get anything back from writing down the story. It's just a bunch of plodding work that's rarely gratifying aside from the sense of simply having done something, which isn't enough when that something feels about as fun as writing a term paper.

So, that's maybe just slightly too much time looking inside my head, all to restate the question in the subject line. Do any fanfic writers want to collaborate? See, what I'm thinking is that if there's a collaboration, if we're shooting ideas back and forth, we'll both end up with more than just what's in our head. By sharing the writing chores, we'll be able to experience parts of the story aside from just what we've seen in our heads, and for the parts that we're writing, we'll have the other person to spur us on through the mundanity. Since I don't currently own a camera, and comicbook artists who will do it just for fun (or the far-off chance of success) are scarce, this seems like the best way to actually be doing a creative project, but in a way that it doesn't just seem like work.

So, let me know if you're interested. If someone is, I'd like to see a sample of your work, because I'd like to try to find someone whose style is similar to mine. I know that's a little pretentious, be I'll be glad to extend to you the same courtesy (I doubt my old stories are still on here, but I can send them to you). My favorite series is TOS, and I only have pretty basic familiarity with the others. If you desperately want to do 24th century, I might be persuaded if you have a dynamic concepts, and don't my correcting a lot of continuity mistakes from me. But I'd much prefer doing something with the Original series or that era.
Speaking of "series," I much prefer to write an ongoing series of stories rather than one-shot tales (it comes from my comicbook background). I like to find story concepts where you can really have a long duration of exploring the characters and concepts, instead of just one story and that's it. Like, here are some pretty basic story concepts, just to give you an idea:

  • We could just reimagine Star Trek as if "The Cage" had been bought instead of the way it did turn out.
  • Similarly, we could extrapolate stories based on what "Phase 2" might've been like.
  • I once had an idea that I thought was kind of interesting, if a bit academic. It was a what-if concept, detailing what would happen if Captain Kirk had died shortly before the pilot. Spock would take command of the ship (I know that's a bit of a leap, but it would be explained in the intro story), and Gary Mitchell would be his contrary first officer. The point of it was mostly to imagine what Spock might be like as the Captain, and to show him encountering some of the same conflicts as Kirk (such as "The Enemy Within," where Spock divides into Human and Vulcan halves instead of good and evil), and many new ones.
  • We could continue my "Human Adventure" stories that I started a while ago, where we follow an average young man through the course of his career (note: he's not a Gary Sue, he doesn't save the day on a regular basis; he's more like the viewpoint character), showing some sides of Starfleet that we don't see on the show, such as the quieter interior of Fed space (although, this might not be as fun for the other person, as I'd want to retain more creative control for my brainchild).
  • We can always just invent another original ship/crew in any era.
  • I've been trifling with the idea of doing a really big, maybe novel-length story about the Battle of Axanar mentioned in "Whom Gods Destroy." I've got some interesting ideas for it, but it's not all there quite yet.
So maybe not all of my ideas are brilliant, but that's kind of the point. Nothing sparks an artist's creativity like discussing it with another artist. And in case your suspicious, I'm not just looking for somebody to feed ideas to and watch them do my writing for me. I can hold my own at the keyboard (as the longevity of this post might indicate), as long as I have the proper motivation. I'm hoping that being able to work on a project bigger than what I'm able to do alone might supply the proper motivation.

I guess this was kind of a data-dump, and maybe you were already put off by it three paragraphs before. But hey, it can't hurt to try, right? I think it would be fun to do some Trek fanfic, and this is the way I think would be funnest. So let me know, if anyone's interested.

I like the idea of a collaboration with you & using the ships from the Trek Art forum, such as the U.S.S. Alice (Miranda-Class variant.) Though I tend to go with either TMP-era (lots of lattitude for Captain Riker & U.S.S. Titan style first contacts,) or I tend to levitate toward post-Nemesis era / (Enterprise-E) TNG-era adventures. I'd love to see your ideas at my amateur writers' anthology, "Star Trek: New Worlds" (see the link in my signature line.)

Alternate "what if" universes, such as the illusiory one where Riker wakes up with amnesia only to find out he's being used as entertainment by a young alien. Such as, a bunch of kids sent back from the 2380's or 2390's to avert disaster. The children of personnel aboard the time-ship U.S.S. Premonition (or a ship of comparable technology.)

Chariot-Class (Alternate "What If" Universe Ship by Galactic Scooby.)

TMP-era ideas such as "pre-quels", (where did Dr. Pulaski serve as C.M.O. before the U.S.S. Enterprise-D?)

U.S.S. Alice
(TMP Era, Miranda-Class Variant by Galactic Scooby)

Ideas such as original characters, including the violent, realistic, plausible blood & guts all over the deck from hand to hand with the bad guys.

No "starfleet arrives, kicks ass & leaves without a scratch or a single casualty. The End."

Sex that includes graphic depictions of intercourse or fellatio or people doing shit to annoy the piss out of each other. Shaving cream on someone's hand while they're napping & tickling their face with a feather or fingers, the prank-victim tries to scratch the itch, or swat the other person away & SPLAT!!!

So, did you actually want to collaborate, or did you just want me to put my stuff on your website? I thought this thread had died, otherwise I would've mentioned that one person responded to it by PM, so I'm working on something with them.
I'm not really into the graphic sex and violence anyway.

I want to collaborate. I'm just giving you a range of things I tend to work on. I expect any collaborations to appear on "S.T.: New Worlds", of course. I'm glad you're working on something already. Calhoun, I'm working full-time in Vancouver's North Shore at a small produce market in Park Royal so I don't get to spend all day online as much as I'd love to, coming up with ideas on Microsoft Word. :)
