Anyone played Pikmin 3?

So I should probably get around to selecting the free game from buying Mario Kart 8. I already have Wind Waker HD and don't care for Wii Party U. So it comes down to Pikmin 3 or New Super Mario Bros U.

I've never played any of the Pikmin games, so I'm strongly considering that one instead of another 2D Mario platformer. Has anyone here played Pikmin 3? What's it like?

On the other hand, feel free to try and sell me on NSMBU. :p

So which game did you end up getting?

I haven't actually picked one yet. When I posted the thread, I was thinking I had to pick it by the end of July for some reason - but that was just to register Mario Kart 8 to get the free game. I have until the end of August to actually pick the game I want.

So, still open to feedback, thoughts, opinions, etc.

Sadly I don't have a Wii U yet (I'm planning to pick one up when the Christmas sales hit), so I can't comment on these individual entries, but I can tell you that the Pikmin series is like nothing I've ever played before. It's a brilliant series that feels fresh and creative in a gaming landscape that is perhaps a bit stale these days.

Although, let's be honest here, the Wii U is a system with a small number of extremely high quality games. You're going to end up buying both games eventually and Nintendo first party games never drop in price, so I say get Pikmin 3 now to experience something new and pick up New Super Mario Bros. U (and Luigi U) later.

I literally couldn't give this game away in the free games thread. But I'm looking forward to giving it a try when I get home. I think from the choices in the promotion it is easily the most interesting one. I do like NSMBU, kind of surprised to see a Wii U player that doesn't already have it! Wind Waker HD is ok. Wii Party U has zero appeal, so it was pretty much Pikmin by default for me.

My wife and teenage son both love the first two Pikmin games, but haven't got 3.

I can't help you either - I don't like any video games or gaming. Sorry.

^You don't even have a Wii U yet! I think the actual codes for games expire either at the end of this month, or next. I think you need to redeem them on an actual Wii U, not just on an account. The way Nintendo handled their online accounts is definitely a bit backwards compared to Microsoft and to a lesser extent, Sony.

I just checked. The download code expires after September 30th. Yeah, you're right, that wouldn't have worked out for me. I figured that after purchasing the game with the code online you could simply download it at your convenience.

Well that begs the question. Why are you viewing and posting on a gaming sub-forum?
I know a fair bit about games as I've got a teenager with three consoles which I finance. The word Pikmin jumped out at me as I went to some trouble to get Pikmin 2 for our old Gamecube a while ago - it was a present for my wife. Apparently the first two games are great - I thought that might be relevant.

I played a few games back in the Megadrive and PS1 days but found them boring after about half an hour regardless of the game. My son's tried to interest me but it can't be done. I'm just not interested.

Anyhow, is Pikmin 3 not as good as the others ?

Heh, good point. Thanks for your take on the previous games in the series. I'll be picking up Pikmin 3 then. Thanks! :)

Side note: I could have picked up NSMBU at Target for $10 the other day, but you know Target Canada and their inventory issues - 1 store probably has all the stock and the others have none. (Or, alternatively, it could have sold out already.)

Hmm... I don't think we've had a single person who has played it chime in on this thread yet. So I'm not sure anyone can answer that particular question ('cause I'd like to know too!) :p
