Anyone here read Richard Laymon?

EJA

Fleet Captain
I've seen quite a number of books by this guy, and being a fan of horror fiction, I'm interested in possibly trying them out. I've not read any yet, but the ones that most interest me are The Cellar, The Beast House, The Woods Are Dark, and Midnight Tour. But I thought I'd get some other people's opinions first: Is he any good?

I've read several of RL's books, though unfortunately none of the ones you've mentioned. I like him. I always felt like he was Stephen King without a conscience. His books can be very explicit at times, with lots of sex and violence, but for the most part every one I've read has been entertaining, or entertaining enough to want to finish the book.

I recommend The Traveling Vampire Show and Bite, the two RL books I've enjoyed the most. Also liked Cuts.

I thought Come Out Tonight started out well, but the ending was just alright, and didn't care too much for Night in the Lonesome October. I started Into the Fire, but that's the first one that hasn't really grabbed me. There's Island and the one about Jack the Ripper (can't remember the title off hand) that are the two RL books I would like to read one day.

I like Richard Laymon's work. The Beast House novels and "Savage" (the Jack the Ripper novel) are among my favorites. I'm still relatively new to his work so I have a lot more to read. :techman:
