I'm just looking for a short and sweet explanation.

How to photons allow us to see matter? If anyone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it.

Well, the short story is that they bounce off (are reflected by) objects and then the human eye is able to detect the reflected ones (it actually has to do with the wave/particle duality of light -but somehow I don't see (no pun intended -well; actually it is a 'bad' pun!) that in your question-
