Anyone here familiar with star ocean 3?

I just can't get past the part where I'm meant to rescue Nel. I've got the key I need, but no way to use it - I think it's a bug in my copy.

Anyway, I've found 2 savegames on the 'net - one where they first enter Aquios, another that's meant to be just after rescuing Nel, but in fact is saved at that mining town, I have no idea what I've missed or which save game I should pick up from. Could someone please fill me in on what I missed?

I may be a bit late in answering this but whatever.
You have to go back to the basement and in the room with the one-way door (on the right side of the map) there's another door just right of it. That's where the key goes.

When you skip rescuing Nel, you miss Albel's entry and his mocking your party. As I just love this wicked guy I think it'd be a shame to miss, especially as they refer to this meating later on when you actually fight Albel. But you can still look for that cutscene on YouTube.
