Anyone else love Seska?

I am rewatching VOY all the way through for the first time in several years (at a rate of about 3 eps a week). I am a longtime VOY fan, but on rewatching S1 I am just blown away by Martha Hackett's Seska. She is consistently very, very good and creates one of the more complex characters in the VOY pantheon, IMHO. Hackett manages to steal just about every scene she is in, even from Mulgrew and Beltran (who usually get the best lines).

I just rewatched State of Flux, to cite an example, and was just incredibly impressed at the part they wrote for her and the way she was able to portray Seska in that show-cunning, sexy, vulnerable, scared, agressive, and hostile-all in one hour! She is equally good in Prime Factors, especially in the scene where she convinces Torres to go along with her plan.

Any other Seska fans out there?

She was one of the coolest villians on the show.

Not used to her full potential, however.

Absolutely scrumptious.

She's a small puppy compared to Garak, but you take what you can get.
Actually, having Seska interact with Garak would have been rather interesting. Devious characters whose true motivations are never really clear... could make a good fanfic (hint! to somebody good at that sort of thing). ;)

Seska is the best Voyager villain. No contest. I remain completely infuriated at the thought of the writers that Seska was 'too tied' to the Kazon and then they gave her the completely disgusting death of her just falling over and dying. Seska was opportunistic, doing whatever it took to accomplish her goals - if she felt the Kazon would no longer suit her goals, she'd move on without a second thought.

^ For me, the problem with that approach is that it's pretty much how all villainous Cardassians operate in the series. In terms of being a distinct character, I don't think enough was done for Seska to be more than that. And while it would make sense for the Cardassians to have moles in the Maquis, I think VOY already accomplished that once with Tuvok.

* shrugs * That's just me. ;) To be fair, I think the writers kind of tended to drop the ball on some character development in the later seasons on both DS9 and VOY. I liked what TNG did with the Klingons, in terms of expanding our view of their culture, whereas they were often just reduced to warrior stereotypes in some DS9 eps.

Yes, she was a great villian for the show, & her Machievellian ways were fun to watch. Likewise, I think Kai Winn was a great villian for DS9.

Great potential. Great actress. Great first season. Wish they'd kept the "reveal" a bit longer. I started to dislike the way they wrote her when she joined the Kazon. Wasted opportunities, like many things on Voyager.

And here I thought this thread was about a refreshing alternative to 7-Up. My bad.

She was just OK. Sadly that was enough to make her one of the best villains in the show.

Why wasn't her hair black when she went back to Cardassian appearance?

She looked better as a Bajoran.

I think it would've been waaaay kewl if they'd left her fate more open and then when they encounter Equinox...guess who is onboard...TUVIX! :p

And maybe Seska.

I think her character worked in the show. AT LEAST ONE Marquis had to rebel. I would have been surprised if they all had joined Janeway's crew.

Not really. She was ruined because they attached her to the idiot Klingon-Lite known as the Kazon. When she basically became an outspoken advisor to Culluh (or however you spell his name) and little more, any potential (and there WAS potential, plenty of it) as a villain went down the drain.

I loved Seska. The episode where she showed up in hologrammatic form to fuck with everybody made me punch the air with joy.

I always liked Seska. I would have preferred she not be made Cardassian though - maybe made her a Bajoran Collaborator since we know they did exist - and been kept around a bit longer than she was.

loved loved loved Seska. Thought she should have ended up the Empress of the Kazon HEgemony or some such thing. Deliciously evil with so much potential. It made me cringe to see her have to snivel to Cullah. Eergh!!!!
