Anyone else looking forward to a new Riddick movie?

I was watching Friday Night with Jonathan Ross (a UK chat show, for those who don't know) last night, and Vin Diesel was one of the guests. Anyway, whilst discussing the character of Riddick, Diesel confirmed that a script had just been completed for a third Riddick movie, and that they were hoping to start production in early 2010.

The 'weapons grade helium' Wossie got him to breathe was hi-larious. Squeaky Diesel. I have to say he's much more of a sport than I expected.

However, I read somewhere about how Vin Diesel didn't show up to promote Fast & Furious and some execs ended up calling him and he finally showed up very late. While I don't really care about Fast & Furious (or Diesel for that matter), I have a feeling that word of this will get around and negatively influence the chances of getting another edition of Riddick (which I loved). Nobody wants to make movies with a trouble-making star (especially if his star is not ascending).

I too btw loved Riddick more than PB.

I hope that if a new movie is made, then it's made at the same budget levels complete with Thandie Newton (loved that tight corset), Judi Dench and Karl Urban. I'd hate for this series to become dumbed down like the Christopher Lambert version of Beowulf that I saw on SciFi the other day (btw, Rhona Mitra wore a low-cut corset all thruout the movie - I'd think the people working on the sets were happy as there were chances for lots of wardrobre malfunctions). Also seeing that they are the Necromongers, maybe it means that there can still be a Jack (Alexa D.) in the new movie.

In short - if it's truly a continuation of TCoR - gimme!! If not - then I'd prefer it to remain a "It-might-have-been" movie that fans long for.

Yeah, that was damn funny.

I hope it happens. While far from perfect, I really enjoyed both movies as well as the animated "bridge" short they released. And from what I've read, Vin is personally a huge booster of this project, which should help.

Also, while not a new film, I'm really excited about the new game Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena coming out fairly soon (in a few months, I think?) Diesel did the voicework for it, and it includes the full Escape from Butcher Bay game with updated graphics as well as an entire new singleplayer campaign.

Heck Yeah! I love both PB and TCOR - for different reasons.

At least they showed in TCOR that they are certainly not afraid of taking risks, something sorely needed in todays Hollywood "scifi" output.
