Anyone else looking forward to a new Riddick movie?

I was watching Friday Night with Jonathan Ross (a UK chat show, for those who don't know) last night, and Vin Diesel was one of the guests. Anyway, whilst discussing the character of Riddick, Diesel confirmed that a script had just been completed for a third Riddick movie, and that they were hoping to start production in early 2010.

I have to admit, this got me a bit excited. I absolutely loved Pitch Black, and although The Chronicles of Riddick had it's faults, it's still an enjoyable enough film. I think Riddick is a great sci-fi/action character, and think Diesel plays him well.

So, anyone else interested, or excited for, a new Riddick movie?

Yes.
Even though Chronicles was not the best and missed an opportunity, I think it created an interesting universe and I always wanted to see more.

So it's good to hear they are making a new movie, I hope they do a good job and I will definitely be checking it out.

You bet! Though Chronicles... is VERY flawed, it was a nice attempt at creating a new sci-fi universe. I'm glad we're gonna see a new adventure set in that world, there is a lot of potential!

I was SO stoked for Chronicles of Riddick after Pitch Black that it turned out to be a MAJOR dissappointment so I'm a little bit leary about another one.

Having said that I'll definately watch it anyway and hope for the best!

When Chronicles came out they(or Vin) said it was a new trilogy being designed(not including Pitch Black). So if those ideas are still out there then yeah, I'm curious. Is it going to pick up right after Chronicles, where Riddick is now in control of the Necromongers or pick up some time later? I have to think the original idea was to be a direct follow up with Riddick in control but now that so much time has passed any Riddick adventures are being played as one off adventures.

I'd be curious. I'm thinking that anymore Riddick and XXX(he says he wants to return to that franchise as well) hinge on Fast & Furious and convincing studios he can still be a box office draw *coughBabylon AD*

No, I am not. Pitch Black is one of my favorite sci-fi movies of all time but Chronicles was horrid. I ahve no expectation the third one will be any better.

I feel the same way. It's like David Twohy thought we liked Riddick because he was just a bada** who didn't give a sh** about anyone. I thought Riddick really changed at the end of Pitch Black. Not to become a pacifist mind you, no way. I was disappointed also that Fry wasn't brought up, because she died for him at the end of the last film, and NOTHING of what those two characters went through are ever touched in Chronicles.

I thought it was a dreadful and incoherent attempt at creating a new sci-fi universe. It was a mess. For the life of me, I can't figure out whether "Furyans" and the other groups mentioned in the movie were meant to be aliens or human offshoots or what. They just slapped a bunch of vaguely SF-ish and fantasy-ish concepts together without much care or consistency.

And it just didn't fit in the same reality as its predecessor. Pitch Black was a nice little movie set in a credible near-future universe that didn't require much suspension of disbelief. Okay, the orbital dynamics were inconsistent (any moon close enough to the ringed planet to experience an extended eclipse would orbit fast enough to be out of eclipse in hours), but otherwise, it was a grounded, naturalistic story. But then Chronicles of Riddick comes along and replaces that with this piece of sheer fantasy that's completely unconnected to any recognizable reality. It's a bizarre mismatch of tone and approach. It's like doing a Maltese Falcon sequel revealing that 1930s San Francisco is actually a suburb of Middle Earth and Sam Spade is the heir to the throne of the elves.

Pitch Black was awesome. Chronicles of Riddick was okay. I'm up for another Riddick flick.

I liked the "bigger world" that CoR tried to establish. I'm sick to death of Star Wars and Star Trek's enslavement to their own continuities. I like new stuff, and CoR, while flawed, was new.

I liked both Pitch Black and TCOR and am looking forward to more. I was never a fan of the Fast & Furious franchise but I'm hoping the new movie does well to help the next Riddick installment along.

In fairness, it was intended to be the first in a trilogy. It's reasonable enough to expect that not all the questions will be answered in that one movie. They figured they had another two movies to flesh out the Universe, so they didn't reveal too much in the first movie.

Hopefully, the next film will give us some more background and answer some, if not all, of those questions. Until then, I reckon it's unfair to condemn Chronicles for for not tying eveything up, when it is essentially only one piece of a bigger picture, so to speak.

Sure. The other two were decent enough (in my opinion) and I liked the character so I guess my mates and I will see it if/when it happens.

If they can take the enthusiasm of the second movie and spend some time focusing it in the right direction they might have something. Maybe at this point Vin won't be so "Mary Sue" about the Riddick character and they can make sure it has a solid foundation. I mean the trailer knocked me out (hell, still does) with its style and scope and everything and I was really excited to see it but the actual movie sputters out rather quickly.

I'd definitely be up for another Riddick film! Pitch Black was great, and I thought that TCOR was good fun. True, it was far from excellent, but I admired the attempt to do something very different from the first movie. It seemed like they were trying to set up an interesting, imaginative universe for the film, and others to follow, but I'll admit some of it felt a little pointless and fell flat. As has been stated, though, the filmmakers were probably planning some sort of payoff in the later films, which is why some stuff didn't feel entirely fleshed out in TCOR.

Now, as to whether or not there will be a new movie... I'll believe it when I see it. Right now, it sounds like Diesel is just hoping there will be another one. They'd still need to find a studio to finance and distribute the film (maybe they'll try Universal again, but after the middling performance of TCOR, the folks there may pass on it) before anything can really happen. When they've done that, I'll be a bit more optimistic.

I'm not going to be quivering in anticipation for the next few years, but I'd definitely watch it. I did love Pitch Black.

Chronicles was kind of hilarious in its tendency to take itself WAY too seriously, but it was pretty fun to watch. The Necromongers were so ridiculously stupid, how could you not enjoy a movie about them? I'm hoping they're in the sequel, and that they ramp up the scenery chewing.

I'm in the minoraty when I say ''CHRONICLES'' was the better movie, but do I want to see another one? Maybe, depends on how I feel to be honust

I liked Pitch Black and The Chronicles Of Riddick, so I woudn't mind another movie ...
