i'm hoping to network with some trek-themed filkers, and i was wondering if anyone else has some music to share?

if not, can anyone recommend a good website for it?

thanks everyone!! :klingon:

it's my goal to perform some songs at a trek-con- have you ever?

You're welcome. :)

I don't sing, so I don't have anything recorded (sorry!). I just write them.

As for performing... I've joined in the informal filksinging, but as I said, I'm not much of a singer. ;) However, some of my songs have been performed; the first time was at BanffCon, back in the '90s. I considered it a compliment when somebody said of one of my songs, "You should write more verses!" :)

I'm glad to find other filkers -- there are not very many folks here who are even into SF fandom, let alone know about filking. If I mention it as something I enjoy doing, they give me a funny look and immediately suspect me of confessing to x-rated activities. :guffaw:

Sorry, a bit off-topic, but has anyone ever written a song about the Trek BBS? Hm, might be an idea there ...

I think somebody should "filkify" some of the shenanigans from the Star Trek XI forum. I've already got some ideas... :p

that's what I love about filk- it's basically putting an inside joke to music. while the general populace might scratch their heads; those "in the circle" can truly appreciate music with subject matter pertaining to their "niche".

once i finish some recording i'll definitely post a song or two in the forums for some feedback; and once again nice to make your acquaintance timewalker! filk forever!!:bolian:

I only wrote a Trek "song" once, in a fit of mischief:

Blame Modern Trek!

You do understand that Canada cheerfully takes the blame for inflicting Celine Dion on an unsuspecting world, as well as Shania Twain's braying, and insists that you keep them both, with our compliments? :vulcan:

But in truth, although I realize it's satire, I really don't care for the "blame Canada" notion. :scream:

It's not that I think Canadians are exempt from being skewered -- I've done my fair share of skewering Kirk in filk and parody -- and was taken to task by somebody who was horrified because the song I did "wasn't nice." I just don't care to see the entire country/people tarred and then told to "lighten up" because it's just a joke. :klingon:

Hey, I didn't write "Blame Canada." I just cribbed their tune for my own nefarious purposes. Your beef's with Parker and Stone :)

Besides, after Celine and Shania, you owe us.

You might want to look up TJinLOCA. She's been filking at conventions for quite a few years and could probably point you in several useful directions. There are probably others around; we certainly have had them in the past.

Some of 005/Mutarada's parodies have included songs, and there have been more than a few song-parody / song / poem entries about TrekBBS in the Misc. Madness contests and elsewhere. I don't have copies of anything, but they do happen, from time to time.
