Anyone else go OUT OF THEIR way to find a 2D Version of a movie?

I really enjoyed Yogi Bear in 2d and did not see the need for 3d for that movie....
and why was Tron In 3d? the 3-d was hardly noticable.

After seeing Alice in Wonderland and TRON Legacy in 3D, I have no desire to see another film in 3D unless it's IMAX.

3-D has destroyed my enjoyment of going to the movies in the theatre. Full stop.

I went to see Avatar in 3-D and it such an unpleasant experience that I think it is one of the reasons I came down so hard on the film in my comments to this group and elsewhere. I have since seen the film in 2-D and like it a hell of a lot more.

This past year there have been at least a half dozen films I have refused to go see in the theatre because only 3-D versions were being shown. Yesterday I watched Resident Evil: Afterlife for the first time on 2-D Blu-ray and enjoyed it. I finally saw Alice in Wonderland, in 2-D Blu-ray, a few months ago.

Most of the films I'm interested in seeing in 2011 are apparently going to be 3-D, including the final Harry Potter. If I can find 2-D versions I will go see them, but if only 3-D versions are available then to hell with them. I have an expensive plasma-blu ray system and can always watch them at home later.

I've gone to illegal downloads a lot to find movies in 2d rather than 3d,

When I went to my theater(for Green Hornet) the manager was at the ticket counter selling tickets(guess one of the teens didn't show). I made a point to tell him I'm glad you still carry 2-D unlike 'x' theater across town. Told him after 8-9 movies last year in 3-D and only 1, maybe 2 was worth it that I'm over it and can't wait for the gimmick to go away. He said they've already started noticing fewer 3-D to 2-D sales when offered at his cineplex is favoring 2-D. To that I say good and I hope that that one example begins spreading across the country.

I can't see in 3D, because of the way my eyes are I'm one of those few people that just can't see it.

I went to see avatar in 3D and wasn't as wowed as my friends. That was also when I realised I couldn't see the 3D.

Maybe i'll see Tron in 3D but so far the few movies i saw in 3D were unimpressive to say the least (except for Avatar but that was designed as the 3D vehicle).

I can live without it.. i hate the glasses and the effect is not worth it and the added pricetag is certainly not worth it.

I think 3D is already starting to get on people's nerves and i don't believe it'll be around much longer.. at best for a few blockbuster movies but eventually even that will fade.

Maybe in a few years technology will improve once again and 3D will get worthwile.. i'm not holding my breath though.

I always pick the 2D movie. Unless it's an animated movie and the other theater which has a first showing matinee price on 3D (equals regular ticket price) has an early enough starting time.

Two of us seeing 2D movie = $14
Two of us seeing full price 3D movie = $23

I've seen three films in 3D at this point (Jackass, Tron and Avatar) and quite frankly I can't say any one of them struck me at the end as something I couldn't have seen in 2D and enjoyed (or in the case of Avatar, disliked) just as much.

I realize 3D isn't going anywhere anytime soon, but I just haven't seen anything essential about it yet. That could certainly change, but I'm not holding my breath since there isn't anything coming out this year that I feel I absolutely must see in 3D. There's a couple where I think it might be fun, but that's about as far as it goes.

I have because as an avid movie fan I pray for the day when 3D collapses like it did in the 1950’s and 1980’s. The fact is some people just don’t like it and I’m one of them.

I remember a ticket agent try and talk me out of going to FINAL DESTINATION 4 because it was in 2D.

]The problem is its getting harder and harder to find a cinema showing 2D versions of certain movies. I missed MY SOUL TO TAKE entirely because I couldn’t find a 2D screen here in Albany the capitol of New York]

I really, really want to see the Cameron film SANCTUM but I don’t want it “ruined” in 3D but I have a feeling its going to be hard to find a 2D

Anyone else try to avoid 3D when possible
I haven't had any problems finding movies in 2D. Of course I don't go all that often. And yes, I do avoid 3D movies because they cost more.

I only see 3D movies that were filmed that way, not converted. I want to see Green Hornet, which was converted into 3D. My usual theater is only having 3d showings, so I'm off to a different theater, which isn't as nice, but is showing it in 2D.

^^
You didn't marvel at seeing Pontius' wang in 3D hit a softball?

It was funny in a "Gah...damn it!" kind of way, but most of the jokes that make me laugh in Jackass revolve around the physical comedy stuff. I'm a sucker for somebody getting hurt.

I have ZERO interest in seeing a film in 3-D, and never have, and never try to see one in 3-D. In fact, I'd say I almost never have wanted to see any movie offered in 3-D, out of every single film I have watched.

I've also not seen a film in probably three or more years.

To date I've only seen two films in 3D and they're (so far) the only films available in 3D that I've had any interest in seeing at all. So no, I haven't gone out of my way so see a 2D version of a 3D film because most 3D films this last year have looked crap no matter how many dimensions they're shown in and I wouldn't have gone to see them regardless.

In case anyone was wondering, the two I did see (as if you couldn't guess) were Avatar and Tron Legacy. Both were really enjoyable films with or without the 3D. Incidentally, I'm long-sighted with a weaker right eye and partially colour blind and yet I managed to watch both films just fine without wearing my prescription glasses. I'm not saying nobody should have any trouble seeing it, but I just think the issues a minority are experiencing are getting rather blown out of proportions.

As I see it, the problem is not the medium, it's the material. Too many mediocre films are getting converted to 3D just in an attempt to boost sales. I'm just not sure if it will result in a total loss of confidence in the technology once the novelty value wears off or if the studios will catch on to the fact concept that treating 3D as a gimmick rather than a valid artistic medium will only hurt the industry in the long run and start supporting higher quality films that just so happened to have been shot in 3D.

With a bit of luck they'll be able to develop the technology more to overcome it's current shortcomings.
