Anyone contemplating a big purchase soon?

Recently I moved into a new, smaller community where my living expenses will be significantly less, and into a new employment situation that will pay me a little more. The end result will be that I will have some decent disposable income for the foreseeable future that will allow to indulge a little where I had to really scrimp before.

As such hopefully in the new year, perhaps somewhere around March or so, I'm now seriously able to consider upgrading my computer from my three year old eMac to a spanking, newly introduced 21.5" iMac. I should add that this is candidly an indulgence because my eMac has and continues to perform flawlessly with no complaint from me. That said I can see myself appreciating the bigger display (iMac's 21.5" vs. eMac's 17') and faster processor (iMac's 3.06 GHz vs. eMac's 1.42 GHz) in regard to my pastime of using Photoshop and Illustrator.

And perhaps within two years I could seriously consider a small second hand car or a motorcycle (something I've pined after for a very long time). I'm interested in a Suzuki, Honda or Yamaha in the 500-650cc range.

My old '82 Suzuki GS750E. Sometimes I really miss this bike.

Anyone else considering a significant purchase?

At the moment, there are no large purchases I would like to make (well, a new car, but that is gonna be a long time from now). I'm pretty satisfied with everything I have.

I went on so many crazy spending binges last year. I was starting to think Best Buy owned my soul.

I'm looking at two in the next two years. I need a new bed, and will have to replace the car within that timeframe.

I'm hoping to replace the downstairs carpet and vinyl with wood flooring (probably laminate)--sometime in the next year.

I guess big is relative, I want a Canon 17-40mm F/4 lens. I've been looking on eBay in the hope of snagging one for around $500.

I've been looking for some other Canon glass on eBay in the past week or so and I've been really put off by some of the prices there... everything seems to be too high compared to retail.

Yeah, but I have no choice. I sort of need a bed.

With a little bit of networking, you might be able to obtain Jayson's bed at minimal cost.

...I've got a high end computer that I started to put together all of two years ago, but then ran out of money to fund it with. Whenever cashflow problems get taken care of and other important things are taken care of, I plan to breathe new life into that project.

I want to buy a secondary used vehicle at some point within the next 12-24 months; probably another old pickup in slightly better condition than the one I've got now, likely in the $1-3K range. That has priority before the computer.

In any case, right now... money is too tight, so no big purchases anytime really soon.

What does moving into a "smaller community" mean exactly? And what's an eMac?

I just bought a new Mac Pro, so that was a decent chunk of change.

I was living and working in Misisssauga, Ontario (Canada) which as a population of about 1.5 million, and it's right next to Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area with a population of about 4.4 million. I just moved to Brockville, Ontario with a population of about 25,000 excluding the surrounding area.

Nothing at the moment, but sometime in 2011, I plan on moving out of this boarding house and rent my own unit. So I'll need to buy lots of furniture.

Canon lenses do hold their value pretty well, although a lot of goods are overpriced there. On average, eBay prices are probably comparable to KEH but I'm hoping for a rare bargain only eBay can provide.

If I needed it soon, however, eBay would not be a good option.
