Anyone collecting Marvel Masterworks?

Lately there has been a wave of comic book movies and series on the big and smallscreen. Although I haven't read a comic book in my life, I am a huge SF & Fantasy fan and do enjoy movies like Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, iron Man and shows like Lois and Clark, Snallville and Batman TAS.

So I decided to see if there was a way I could catch up on some of my favorite comic book heroes. I discovered that DC has it's Archives line of graphic novels, and Marvel has been releasing its Marvel Masterworks for quite some time. However, the DC ones are pretty hard to come by, while the Marvel Masterworks are readily available and are being re-released in paperback format. I decided to start with Amazing Spider-Man and The Uncanny X-Men (I know that X-Men came first, but I read somewhere that it only started getting good with the Uncanny X-Men).

So far, I haven't been disappointed. The books look great and the stories are rather good and will, I presume, only get better. I was wondering, has anyone else collected these and what other Marvel superheroes are worth a look?

On the back of listening to a podcast chronicling every Amazing Spider-Man issue since no. 1, I've been buying the Marvel Masterworks Amazing Spider-Man http://amazingspiderman.libsyn.com/category/ASMClassics. I own volumes 1 and 2 and hope to get volume 3 later this month. Money permitting I may start buying the Ironman ones next year. I enjoy them, they're much better than the Essentials and their DC equivalents, the Showcase which are Black & White and the binding on the books are poor.
On the subject of DC Archives are difficult to find, not to mention expensive, you could always get the Chronicles. These are just like the Marvel Masterworks but begin in the Golden Age rather than Silver Age of comics. There are editions I believe for Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Captain Marvel and of course Batman which is now on volume 9 or 10 and Superman which is on volume 8 or 9. I have the first 3 volumes of Superman and Batman, so you may want to check them out if you don't already know about them http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/search/r...hronicles&ie=UTF8&qid=1286613243&rnid=1025612.

I have just started collecting and only have Uncanny X-men vol 1. I have ordered Spider-man vol 1-4 at various placed but I have yet to receive them.

What's the difference between DC's archives and chronicles? For that matter, what is the difference between the golden en silver age?

As I understand it the difference between the Chronicles and the Archives are that the latter are hardbacks which focus on a specific title, eg Action Comics issues 1-12. The Chronicles on the otherhand are paperbacks which focus on the character eg Vol 2 of the Superman Chronicles features issues 2 and 3 of Superman and 14-20 of Action Comics in publication order.
As for the Golden and Silver age of comics:-
