Anybody think Picard was lying in Yesterday's Enterprise?

I don't know if this has come up before but does anyone think Picard might have been lying about the Federation facing defeat in the war with the Klingons just to get Garet to go back?

No. I don't think Picard would condemn an entire starship's crew to die if he didn't think it would save many more lives in the end, no matter what Guinan might have "felt" about the situation. I think Picard knew things were getting desperate.

The fact that there were half a dozen Klingon warships lurking around at any one time leads me to believe he was telling the truth!

The why would Riker state that Starfleet could certainly use a new starship. Or Tasha state that they lost more than half of Starfleet to the Klingons.

The war had been going on for "only" about twenty years, which puts him a bit past 40 when the war started. Even though twenty years of war can change a person, I believe he was still the basically the same Picard as we know from the correct timeline. He was a little different. Well, more like the Picard from earlier in the show before he relaxed a bit, but his strength of character would have been unchanged at his age.

The federation only knows how to lose wars. The only wars that they even have a half chance at are with small minor alpha quadrant powers such as with the pre-TNG Cardassian war or the Tzenkethi war. The federation even managed to fight a 3 year war with the vastly technologically inferior Talarians allowing them to wipe out entire colonies in the process.
