Anybody like Christopher Titus?

Mr. Laser Beam

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
He's one of my favorite comedians...I only know him from his standup (I've never seen his TV series, although I hear that's hilarious as well).

Anyhow, he has a new CD and DVD out today called Love Is Evol. Just thought I'd slip that idea into your mental microwave and see if it defrosts* .

* Bonus points to whoever recognizes that phrase and where I got it from (hint: it's not Titus). ;)

Not a big fan of his. Every time I watch his routines or listen to them I get the abused and disturbed vibe from him.

Comedy Central played a pared down version of Love is Evol on Valentine's Day, and Hubby and I watched it Sunday.

It was hilarious.

The stories he told about trying to impress his new girlfriend with how "cool" he was are some of the funniest bits he's ever done!

For me, personally, his standup is wretched. Every joke is watery, obvious, and unfunny. He reminds me a bit of Carlos Mencia - nothing original, everything predictable, barely able to wring more than a rare grin in an entire hour-long special.

Very weak.

I enjoyed his TV show but I've never seen his stand up.

Didn't the bully from "A Christmas Story" play his brother(?) on the show?

I've always been a fan, yeah - really enjoyed his TV series and like the stand-up stuff that I've seen. I haven't seen the new one yet, but it's waiting patiently on my DVR....

Yes indeed, that's Zack Ward.

The only stand up of his I've watched is "Norman Rockwell is crying" which is basically a rehash of the tv series which I absolutely loved. It helps for me that I also had an alcoholic father and even though my mother wasn't crazy, I can relate to what he talks about. I've got the DVD's of the tv series which I've ripped to my hard drive to take with me on my travels for work. I still love this show and it's another one of those shows that FOX cancelled that make you think "WTF were they thinking?".

I have never heard a comedian get an audience to just go stone cold silent like Titus did in that one bit...
where he mentions that his mother killed herself

He is definitely right about one thing: People like him, who've been through a lot of pain, know how to *handle* pain. The rest of us don't have a clue. :p

I loved this guy's tv show and was sad when it was yanked off the air. I just watched his comedy special and was cracking up the whole time. He is a great comedian.

I actually just recently watched the series on DVD. I like the TV show and thought it was funny, but I hated the stand up portion of the show. It felt pretentious and intense and disturbing. Then I just recently watched his new standup special and while it's funny, it's also pretentious and intense and disturbing. The stuff about his ex-wife... wow. And of course the abusive father and the mother who murders someone at her wedding then kills herself... wow. That dude is seriously not right in the head. I don't mean this as an insult but there is a light of insanity in his eyes when he talks about these things. I fully expect his life to have a tragic ending.

Well, you know that in general comedians are very sad and lonely people. This of course doesn't account for everyone, but I'd say in Titus' case it does, and personally, I do love his stand up and the show.

I love Titus, and I *loved* his show. I was so bummed that the network wouldn't stop dicking around with it. They ruined a good thing and killed it.

I think he is funny. I don't think he fucked up in head. He proably has alot of emotional scares from his upbringing but that doesn't mean he himself is screwed up.

I think comedy is his therapy.

Carol Burnnett used it in the same way.
Similar to how Emineim uses Rap.
