I ask becuase I saw the movie ''Jesus Camp'' and I was wondering if there really like that? I mean the way those kids were chanting & wanting to be ''BORN AGAIN'' at 9?!?!:wtf: And that whole christian ''soldier'' stuff were those kids were in camo and all that? And did I mention the kids Crying ther eyes out & being scared to death? I mean why would anybody in there right mind go to such places? and would Jesus have approved?

I have seen those and yes, it can be like that.

Nothing so intense. My parents did send me to a summer camp that was run by my neighbour's church group -- though if anything, that proved my parents weren't insanely religious, as my family was Catholic, and my neighbours were very devout Protestants. If they were all that strict about religion, I doubt they would've sent me to another church's camp.

From what I recall, it was fairly tame stuff. Sure, there was some time set aside for praying and reflecting, but there was no fire and brimstone preaching or being born again through baptism. Mostly, it was a standard summer camp, with nature hikes, rock climbing, rafting, and the like.

Went to a "Bible" camp, well it was a Sunday School camp. Did a bit of reading/talking about the bible but most of the time we were doing fun things, like playing soccer or bush walking.

Can't remember why I even went to Sunday School. I probably knew someone who went and that's why I went. I didn't go very long, I started to do a lot of sporting, school based weekend comps, swimming comps with the club (non-school) I was part of.

Was sent to some Christian youth camps as a kid. Mostly just a day of fun stuff followed by an hour or two of "study" and then a campfire.

Mainly just an excuse to get rid of the kids, my parents aren't even Christians and neither am I anymore :vulcan:

That sounds absolutely horrible.

haven't seen the movie but I used to spend my summers at a 'Baptist' summer camp
I absolutely loved it! We would have 2 chapel services a day, morning and evening, and throughout the day we would have team competitions, crafts, sports, swimming in the lake, boating, etc
basically like a regular summer camp with a couple church services

I worked as a counselor one summer and it was the best summer of my life

like I said, I haven't seen the movie, but I have a feeling that it was made by non-christians who wanted to make fun of christians and therefore not an entirely accurate representation of christian summer camps

Jesus Camp is a documentary, so no.

"pentecostal/charismatic"
that's it right there

now that I know what I'm talking about
yes, while it may not be an entirely accurate representation of the majority of christians, there are indeed people who 'go nuts for Jesus'
I've seen people worship while waving swords - actual bladed weapons! - blowing ram's horns, waving flags, etc
hey, whatever works for them, right?

It does happen and it wasn't a mockumentary in any way.
They were showing real events, believe me!

J., Was Pentecostal. Was VERY Pentecostal as a child.

Honestly, whether they were like that or not, a person would have a very difficult time getting me to attend one. Or anything religious for that matter. People can believe in whatever they want but so long as Im given the option to be exposed to things like that Im happy.

Religion is too constricting on beliefs. It irks me.

This is why religion should never be allowed to influence matters of the spirit.
Seconded.

A buddy of mine was working at one this summer. It sounded like so much fun. And, yes they are absolutely awesome. I was born again on May 8, 1998 making me 10, it was the best thing ever.

Also, regarding "being scared to death" that doesn't sound good, but are you sure that is what they were?

Oh yes.

J., Once more, was a very Pentecostal child.

If it is true, that has nothing do with being Pentecostal, but rather having to do with bad ideas on how to run it or a mental illness.

I'm just saying it does happen, and it can be like the documentary "Jesus Camp". I'm sure it's not just Pentecostals, it's more to do with extremism, but it is primarily found in Evangelical sects.
