Just wondering if there are any Warhammer 40K fans in the forums?

The "Horus Heresy" novels are in my opinion INCREDIBLE, they are critically acclaimed and are new york times best sellers.
I personally think they are the best gothic sci-fi novels available.
I started the first novel without knowing the backstory or any of the players in the books, but was quickly drawn into the universe and the treachery of the warp.....

I also got into the modelling hobby of 40k after reading the novels. I suggest buying the "horus heresy" Artbook, because it allows you to get a backstory of the space marine chapters, the traitors, and the ultimate heresy.

Right now im reading "a thousand sons".

Also, just wanted to say something that might be viewed critically, but that I HONESTLY believe:

If the Warhammer 40K "Horus Heresy" series were to be produced with the same amount of money as the new Star wars movies, they would DESTROY all sci-fi/opera/gothic movies to date....

I've enjoyed the series greatly. I wasn't as unaware of the universe as you were having known a bit from Space Crusade when I was a kid and then the Dawn of War games. That got me looking at the novels when I was at the bookstore and bought the Eisenhorn omnibus and it really hooked me and I've read maybe a dozen of other books not counting the HH series.

Never touched one of the model or really have much interest in taking it, mostly because it is crazy expensive.

I've read up to and including Prospero Burns and looking forward for more from the series.

If Warhammer was to be done properly it would probably need to be done on a Star Wars prequels budget to have a hope of pointing together a movie given how grand everything is. It would also need to be R18+ if it stays true to get the horror, death and violence of the franchise, which would immediately limit it in the box office.

Being a veteran of more than 15 years of Warhammer/GW gaming (though stopped for reasons that are not relevant to this thread) i'm a big fan of the Heresy novels.

I know all of the backstory of the Heresy and since the books follow it broadly i know the key moments before i read about them but to my amazement it didn't bother me to know how a certain fight would end or how something would happen because most of the writers inject enough character into the story and expand the scope as opposed to the few pages of text in the gaming books about the Heresy.

The initial first three books dealing with Horus' fall were mindblowing good, easily recommendable to anyone who's into Science Fiction but doesn't bother with the game and several other books were on par with that level (chief amongst them A Thousand Sons which was cool as heck and written by one of their best writers) but there were also some real stinkers i just slogged through for completeness sake.

I'm a bit behind though in my reading.. i think i need to catch up 2-3 books to have them all but i've got vacation due in a week and i'll be ready then. :techman:

I love the books but there not to many warhammer fans here tried to start a thread awhile back. not to many replies. I just wished these books were aviable for the nook or nook color.

Good to know there are some Fans here tho!

FPalpha- I also think the first 3 books were Mindblowingly good....

The only movie that I can think of that copied the Warhammer 40k universe in terms of the "warp" as a different realm, instead of just an engine, was

"Event Horizon", an awesome awesome movie. Honestly, it could have been humans from the imperium whose warp sheilds failed and were left to fend off the taint of the warp by themselves...

I REALLY REALLY like that warhammer idea though, instead of the warp just being an engine, it is a sort of subspace realm, where FTL space travel is possible, but where emothions are magnified and other beings exist....and you need psychic navigators and such....AWESOME..

If The first 3 Horus Heresy books were put into film with a budget like the new star wars movies, and an R rating.....we would have the SINGLE BEST SCI-FI TRILOGY EVER
