Unfortunately I did not keep very good track of my collection. I think they could be worth mucho dinero today (do they even still make these things?).

Anyhoo, do any of you remember Wacky Packages? What was your favorite?

I was back in the day. Crust Toothpaste is one I recall. I think they revived them a few years back.

I remember they combine good art with good humor. I always thought they were done by the people who did Mad and Cracked Magazines.

Cap'n Crud

Back in '08 they actually put out a hardcover compilation with images of every sticker from the first seven series. I picked it up and was surprised to find that Art Spiegelman (the creator of "Maus") worked on them.

Back when they first came out, I was pretty obsessed with them, just as I was obsessed with MAD and the other humor magazines. I even made a bunch of my own, but I doubt if I still have them anywhere. It's likely that I still have the actual Wacky Packages cards somewhere in one of my old storage boxes.

I used to love the original sets. Some were genuinely funny, and even a little pointed towards the product they were spoofing. Cool childhood memory.

I'd bet my collection is hidden somewhere in my parents house. They are pack rats. I would love to find them again. I remember friends and I would trade them like others traded baseball cards.

Neveready Batteries

I used to love those, I had quite a few of them.

I can't remember what they were called, but there were these miniature rock albums covers that came with a piece of gum shaped like a 33rpm record. I wish I still had those.

When were these popular? I'm 37 and grew up in the late-70s/early-80s and I have no recollection of these at all. Which is strange because I was all over Garbage Pail Kids and stuff like that, so you'd think this would be right up my alley.

[edit] Never mind, Dennis' link says they were started in 1967 and were popular throughout the 70s. I must have missed them somehow or just don't remember them.

Late 70s and early 80s is about the time. I remember we got them at the local variety next to the other bubblegum card packs.

Hawaiian Punks

Well, okay, I didn't know about them when they first came out (I don't think). It would have been the 1973 series that I started on.

Whenever anyone asks me who my favorite artist is, I usually forget to mention the great Art Spiegelman.
