Any Planet of the Apes fans?

Wow, stretchy Thread.

The original Planet Of The Apes is a real Science Fiction classic; and a rare example of real SF in movies or TV. The sequels are enjoyable if you like the original. The TV series was a real nice adventure series (and it had Roddy McDowall). The mid-70s comic by Doug Moench and Mike Ploog is second only to the original movie in quality.

The remake, I had forgotten within about fifteen minutes of seeing it. The upcoming remake, I have little optimism for.

What I'd really like to see is somebody with knowledge of and respect for the original make a new movie set in the original continuity.

personally, I'd love a film done with more respect to 'original' continuity - but it waould have to be somewhere between the end of Conquest and the start era of the priginal Apes film, as in Beneath the Earth is dead after Taylor fires off the bomb.

Planet of the Apes movies were the like the Terminator franchise, they should've ended with the first sequel, and every movie after made that just taints the good memories of the first two.

Also, the paradox thing.

Also, a heroic lead quitting after the second movie (Hamilton and Heston).

Also, Linda Harrison was neolithicious; Linda Hamilton...not too shabby, either.

umm, I liked the original the best. the others were ok and stuff, but there was like, a steady decline in my enjoyment. that Linda Harrison chick really gave me that special feeling!
I remember the TV series too. it was pretty cool, just kinda different. not sure if I'd like it if I saw it now though.

off topic: somebody fix that farkin' button. stuff that stretches the page like that sucks!

^umm, no, it doesn't.

I clicked it a bunch of times, and it's still stretchin' the page.

the entire text of that spoiler is on the button. wtf is up with that?

Cornholio,

I just clicked it and it did resize the webpage back to normal size. I am referring to the button posted by member "Can".

The costumes, including Heston's astronauts costume, are on display at the science fiction museum in Seattle.

^you could be on to somethin' there, 'cause it doesn't matter how many times I click on that damn thing, the page is stretched 'bout 5 times it's normal width.

and I've tried viewin' the page with both Firefox and Chrome and there's no difference.

glad it works for you, but this is what I see after clickin' on that huge button.

damn annoying.

Yeah, my screen is all messed up, too, and I don't have time to figure out how to fix it.

A shame. This was a fun thread.

Cornholio,

Yes, we are using different web browsers. I am using Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 8.0.

Why no love for "Conquest", people? It's my fave, after the original. It's dark and gritty, it has Khan, it has McDowell's best performance in the whole franchise (yes, including the original!), and it ties the first three together with the last one. <sigh!> Well, anyway, I'm a big "Apes" fan, from way back, even before I was a Trekkie or a Star Wars nut. I even had the Treehouse Playset (TM)! :)

^ Count me as a Conquest fan. After the original, it's my favorite of the series. I don't yet have a Blu-ray player, so I haven't yet seen the original/unrated cut which was included in the recent BD set.

Bastards! :scream:

Yay, the thread is fixed.

Anyway, I always liked CONQUEST, too. It's probably my second-favorite after the original, with ESCAPE a close third.

Conquest(in the original) rocked. What an interesting and tension-filled storyline! Especially the scene at the end when Breck(oops, spoiler) Nevermind. Go watch the movie.
