I read the entire Death Note Manga a week or two back and purchased the Live Action film that was just released yesterday. I love the series and amazingly they did a good job on the first movie!

They perfectly cast the parts for Light and L. Light's girlfriend was actually a good plot addition for the movie. Hoping the second movie will be just as good.

I am dreading the fact that the US is planning to make their own Death Note film. I'll be the first to say that I'll suck. I can see them hiring someone like Hannah Montana to play Misa or something.

I just recently watched all of the anime. It was pretty good despite the somewhat disappointing ending. I don't think I'd watch it again or bother with the manga but I'd check out the live-action film(s). I do wonder how Ryuk and the other Shinigami were portrayed--CGI or a guy in a suit? Hopefully the former.

Ryuk is indeed CGI. I've seen both the live action films, I didn't really care for them all that much- -Ryuk is on the nose, and the guy that plays L was excellent, but Light and the rest of the cast didn't do it much for me.

Except, of course, Chairman Kaga as Light's dad.

Personally, I think the Manga is the best- -they tweaked the TV series ending juuuuust slightly enough that it took out some of the more important pathos at the end.

I liked the first Death Note movie. It was really hard to find at my Best Buy for some reason... The movie makers did it right for the most part. I guess it wasn't too difficult to do since the Death Note universe is pretty realistic except for the CGI needed for the Shinigami characters of course. The CGI was pretty good. Stylish but not too out there.

I will be seeing the second movie in theaters in a few weeks. I was lucky enough to get a theater near me that will be showing it.

Interesting that nearly everyone that has voted so far has picked L's side. I can't say I'm too surprised since Light became really unredeemable by the end.

i'm sorry but this has to be the most infuriating and eyeroll worthy anime/tv show i've ever seen (and i've seen a lot of bad ones). more tiresome than dragonball z's 20 episode fight scene is the does he know that i know that he knows that i know that he knows that i know that she knows that he knows that i know that we know that he knows that she knows that i know crap. :eyeroll:

add to that the infuriating lead char and makes for something that you just want to see burn... slowly... and painfully.

wish someone would write "light's" name in there to die in the most horrible manner imaginable... over and over and over for optimum deliciousness.

sorry :(

I loved the anime, I love the plots that both Light and L played against each other and the whole game of cat n' mouse chess and checkers that played out in their minds.

Death Note was pretty cool until they jumped the shark around episode 25. Then it decided to shoot itself in the head for the final episode. It was one of the most un-satisfying finales I have ever seen. I actually have the whole manga series lying around here somewhere. I should probably read em sometime lol

I was satisfied. Light didnt appeal to me much from the start but he crossed the line for me when
he put his sister in danger & let his father get killed.

I'm loving it, but only to a point. In the UK we're up to volume 3 almost, I'm watching the preview discs, but Manga Ent are giving us 2 disc sets, so I'll be up to ep 24 at the end of this batch. I love it, but to a point. There's no protagonist in this series, just antagonists, both Light and L are pretty cold-hearted, and there is no emotional hook. I appreciate it on an intellectual level though, and aesthetically the anime is very pleasing. It's one to stimulate the grey matter.

I've read up to volume 9 of the manga though, and it does tend to disappear up its own arse after one of the early main characters exits, stage right.

I've also got the first movie in my to watch pile... I will be getting to it in a week or so.

I like it right up to around the end of the first arc. The second arc wasn't terrible but there were far too many plot holes such as the locations of all of the notes and some of the ridiculous leaps of logic that Near makes.

I think the first half of the series is great. What made Light vs L so cool was that they were pretty much intellectual equals but the second half wasn't quite as good since Light was constantly getting outsmarted by Near. Also I found the Corporation Kira plot really boring.

I watched the live action films first and really liked them so when the anime came on TV here I was all for it. It was pretty good and different from the films which was a plus as well for variety's sake. Still the anime had it's flaws and I've seen better stuff, but it was definitely worth a watch especially since it's animated by Madhouse, my personal favorite anime studio. I don't read much manga so I'm probabally not going to bother with it.

As for who I was rooting for in the live action incarnations it was L and in the anime it was initially Light/Kira until he
started killing non-criminals like the FBI Agents and Ray's girlfriend.
...at which point I started rooting for L to kill the bastard off.

I'm currently at ep. 12. I'm expecting the second batch due in a few weeks. I enjoy the series greatly and heard about it (and the movies) very recently.

Damn straight. They develop this fantastic relationship between these two characters, with so much tension, and then they just throw it away and throw a new wonderkid who makes a mockery of the masterminding villain.

People are turned off by that? That's kind of missing the point as by that point you're not really supposed to like Light, he's a villain. Noble intentions that he had from the start, through character development, are now obviously gone as he's become corrupted by the Death Note and has become an evil, meglomaniacal, monsterous, super-genius. You should just enjoy watching him squirm and get owned by somebody who's smarter than him, it's called irony.

^Oh that's all well and good. That's what I wanted to see. It's just it should have been L to do it. Not that silly L wannabe.

Exactly. It's as if near the end of the wrath of kahn, kirk died and then some nobody cocky young commander warped in, and suddenly started making kahn his bitch with no buildup.
