Another Wrestler found Dead...

SHIT. When will it end? The article says he died of unknown causes, but it's a fair bet that steroids played a role. The guy was a freakin' tank!

R.I.P. indeed. :(

now kids, there's a lesson in this for everyone

I'm surprised you don't see more death pools for this kind of thing. Who do you think is going next? Snitsky, Chris Masters, and Hardcore Holly strike me as prime candidates.

Let's not play guessing games here, it's disrespectful.

I always felt it was a shame Martin blew his big push in late 2002.

Sad to see Test go. Wonder if he had the old exploding heart that got Eddie G?Whatever growth hormone these guys are using these days sure is nasty.

Yeah, what exactly happened? I remember he was getting a big push at that time and then he basically dropped off the radar.

He just stalled. The crowd didn't get behind him. His match against Brock Lesnar in the King of the Ring semi-finals in 2003 was the last time I saw him really get a decent go.

He also had a minor feud with Scott Steiner. After hiring Stacy Keibler as his "image consultant" and then treating her badly, Steiner intervened with Test winning a match to keep Stacy's contract. He then beat Steiner again, making Steiner his "property" as well. For some bizarre reason, Steiner turned heel and they decided to take advantage of Stacy's contract by making her perform stripteases for them and basically do whatever they wanted.

The whole thing was a trainwreck. Test then hurt his back and he ended up being released while rehabbing.

Once they rehired him in 2006, he got another big push but then was suspended for 30 days for a Wellness Policy violation. A week in to his suspension, he asked for his release and that was the end of his WWE career.

Considering how big he was during his ECW stint, I'd have to agree. I'm honestly shocked the federal government hasn't laid the steroids/substance abuse smackdown on pro wrestling yet again considering the impossibly high mortality among its performers. If any other organization had this sort of mortality, it'd be under the microscope quite intensely if not dissolved altogether.

Way too young to die. RIP Test.

All WWE has to do is show off their Wellness Policy. Jeff Hardy getting a suspension just before Wrestlemania last year was a stroke of pure luck when they really needed it.

They could show that they will not tolerate even someone who was amongst their hottest stars misusing steroids or recreational drugs.

On the other hand, wrestling is an easy target. They need to be going after Baseball and American Football. At least with wrestling being predetermined, steroid abuse is not affecting the results of matches which is more than I can say for competitive sports.

I agree with you about the competitive sports part, but NFL and MLB don't have tons of old and young players dropping dead due to steroids or substance abuse compared to pro wrestling. That should well override the fact that wrestling is predetermined.

^Unfortunately, you are jumping the gun here and assuming his death had anything to do with steroids. There is also the fact that Martin was suspended from WWE in 2007 for breaching their wellness policy and let go ten days in to that suspension at his own request.

In my defense, I was pegging the WWE for both steroids and other banned substances. Maybe the wellness program works now (and hopefully isn't a complete joke) and these premature deaths will drop in upcoming years and decades, but the damage has already been done.

The WWE isn't a competitive league, so there's no real reason for them to test for PEDs, beyond the PR factor. I don't think that it's fair to blame wrestling promotions for wrestler deaths any more than you can blame movie studios for actor ODs, which is pretty common, too.

Normally, I'd agree. But the track record of the WWE hasn't exactly been exemplary. More wrestlers who have died at age 40 or under have come from the WWE than from anywhere else. That's no coincidence, and neither is the fact that Vince McMahon has already been brought to trial once over the issue of steroid use/distribution inside his organization. How he was exonerated is a mystery to me....

Most wrestlers have a WWE stint at some point because WWE is the biggest game in town. That includes those who spend a large part of their careers in another organization (e.g., the old WCW, NWA, ECW, TNA, etc.).

Not likely, steroids rarely cause death. In fact, you are more likely to die or be hospitalized from aspirin and multivitamins. 3 deaths were reported from steroids in 2007.

I personally hate wrestling, but I wish his family the best.
