Anger greets 'Top Chef' episode featuring horse meat

I have no objections to eating horse meat in principle. In fact--I like horses less than cows. So, fuck them.

But I have seen and read that horses are more difficult to slaughter humanely than cows and pigs. If that's true, then I think horse slaughter may need to be regulated more closely than other types of meat packing.

I was hoping the animal in Australia's coat of arms is the sheep, that would've been funny, but wikipedia tells me it's kangaroo and emu.

And it's not the Emu we eat :)

We eat Emu too. It's harder to find, I don't recall seeing it in Coles or Woolies meat section (which does have Kangaroo), but I been to a few butchers that have it, both in rural towns and in the city.

Does it taste like chicken? ;)

I just remember "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou" and they're sitting around the Hogwollop dinner table eating horse meat stew.

Didn’t Catherine the Great try that?

Before moderen refrigeration all animals, horse, dog, cat and rodent were ALL considered edible food.
According to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh: “If it has four legs and is not a chair, has wings and is not an aeroplane, or swims and is not a submarine, the Cantonese will eat it.”

(Hey, I didn’t say it, His Royal Fucking Highness did.)

I'm one of those that's revolted by the idea of eating horse meat. More even than dog meat I think. And I'll happily admit it's just cultural prejudice and find cow, pig, sheep, and deer (among others) delicious.
