Angels and Demons

ST-One

Vice Admiral
Who else is looking forward to the film version of this Dan Brown book (it is called 'Illuminati' for the German translation?
I personally think it is a better book than 'The Da Vinci Code' (we know this book as 'Sakrileg' in Germany - a much mor fitting tilte ;) )

I never read Da Vinci Code before seeing the movie. but I didn't like Angels and Demons all that much, and considering I keep hearing it's better than Da Vinci Code, I don't think I'll bother reading it any time soon.
But I'll probably check out the movie adaptation at some point.

I did like Angels and Demons, found it interesting from the peek inside of the Pope selection process - I think that the action and pace were better, but I found the story behind DaVinci Code more intriguing, from a conspiracy theory point of view.

I also liked the movie of DaVinci Code a lot... thought that Tom Hanks worked as Robert Langdon, didn't mind all the talkiness... which puts me in a minority of about 12 fans worldwide.

Oh, I forgot to say I thought The Da Vinci Code movie was pretty good, which is why I would probably go watch the Angels and Demons movie.

It's still nothing close to a literary masterpiece, but it definitely was better than the overhyped Da Vinci Code. So I'm hoping the movie turns out to be better, too.

I just wonder if the public will really care about this film? The DaVinci Code had all the publicity and benefit of controversy surronding it that I don't see Angels&Demons having.

They will need Tom Hanks to sell this movie this time and his last couple of outings haven't put large numbers of butts in seats. Charlie Wilsons War didn't perform well.

This movie could be Tomb Raider:2. No one really wanted a sequel after they satisfied their curiosity with the first. Not sure if Langdon can sell a franchise. Not sure the public wants more like they wanted more of the Gates, O'Connell and Jones families.

I would watch "Angels and Demons" simply because I enjoyed the book. However, I have to confess that I didn't quite enjoy "Davinci Code" as much as I enjoyed the book. Considering it was rather faithful to the book I'm still not sure why exactly, it just didn't make me go "Wow" the way the book did when I first read it.

The Da Vinci Code movie was ok but since my knowledge of the whole religion thing was limited the movie did not always stick with me but I am looking forward to Angels and Demons much more.

I read the da Vinci Code novel years ago and enjoyed it. I haven't seen the film. I enjoyed Angels and Demons, too. (I've come to realise late in life that I am a conspiracy theorisit!) I dunno whether I'll see the film, though.

I liked both books, but thought Angels and Demons was the better of the two.

I'm looking forward to the film.

I liked Angels and Demons better myself. I was actually surprised when I read Da Vinci Code and found it slightly inferior. I had expected the reverse. I enjoyed the movie as well and I will watch the next one.

I suppose the only real problem is that those Nicholas Cage movies, National Treasure, are very similar. Sans controversy of course.

I also liked Angels and Demons better, and it seems to be a book that will work better as a movie.

I'm looking forward to it. I read and enjoyed the book, which I too found to be better than "code".

In my experience, most people who've read both books like Angels and Demons better. Maybe there's something to that.

I should also say I liked The Da Vinci Code film well enough. I did not think of Tom Hanks as a good match for Langdon, but he did pretty well.

I'm sure the prequel will be a quality product as well.

I haven't seen the film so I can't comment but when I think of Langdon and Hanks the two don't necessarily jibe in my head.

I can't get into any of Dan Brown's books (his prose is just absolutely turgid and is a better cure for insomnia than watching televised golf), but I enjoyed the movie adaptation of The Da Vinci Code, despite it making it blatantly obvious from the beginning that the female lead was the descendant of Christ.

I just hope Ron Howard sees fit to not repeat Hanks' hairstyle in this one.

How was it obvious?

BTW, I think you should have used spoiler-tags...

Just reading the book somewhere around the half-way point I deduced that point myself. Its obvious because her uncle is involved and was protecting something valuable. In this case not a physical item(the key) but a person...her, his niece.
Also he need not use spoiler tags in this case. I think board rules state to use them only inside a year of release on films. Sure he could have out of courtesy but if your reading this thread I think its fair to assume one has seen DaVinci Code as well.
