Angel of the South revealed: but why the long face?

Sore throat epidemic hits south-east England: Kent get a little horse...

A giant white horse has been chosen as a new £2m art commission for south east England dubbed "Angel of the South".

The design, by former Turner Prize winner Mark Wallinger, was selected from a three-strong shortlist as part of the Ebbsfleet Landmark Project.

His design for the public art commission will see a horse standing on all four hooves at 33 times life-size.

Once built, it will dominate the north Kent landscape, standing as high as Nelson's Column at about 164ft (50m).

A product of genetic engineering gone wrong? An indictment against the Brown government? A means to invade France as inspired by the Trojan war? Or is it art?

OK, all the horse-related puns can start now... under starters orders of course. ;)

Will this be a male horse?

They've already got one of those at Greenwich. :bolian:

I don't understand this obseesion with giant statues, they are littered all over the world.

At least Tasmania only has one (that I know of) and that is the big penguin in the township of Penguin which isn't all that big when compared to other such things.
