Andy Mangels in trouble?

I came across this article on Rich Johnston's gossip site, and since Andy is known fondly by many in these parts, thought I might bring to everyone's attention.

Partially quoting:

"Award winning comics and sci-fi writer Andy Mangels is in dire financial straits right now, a combination of healthcare bills, and rent issues."

I know what it's like to be in this kind of trouble (my wife and I are dealing with similar issues right now, though nothing like to this degree), so if anybody out there is able to help Andy, it seems like that would be a Good Thing.

Know the feeling, thankfully not the healthcare part, but having two books of a three-book deal pulled from under me at the start of the year wasn;t the best thing that could happen.

Anyway, go bid on Andy's covers- they look great

I notice he doesn't seem to have collaborated with his pal Martin on the new Enterprise book. I do wish him well. Talent is unfortunately not always rewarded commesurately.

I think it's pretty poor if someone posted his personal troubles without his permission. :klingon:

But I do hope things start looking up for Andy, he is a truly talented individual.

EDIT: Oops! Posted before I read the blog...

I do post here, and appreciate the concern. I don't want to go into specifics, but suffice it to say that the lack of paying work, and the bad economy, and a series of health problems, has definitely led my life to some critical places. As it has for many people in America.

As with others, I'm trying my best to stay afloat, whether that means continuing to search for new paying writing work, selling off some of my most treasured and valuable items, or working at a "traditional" job for the first time in 20+ years. In this latter case, bartending.

I do hope to get more Trek work at some point in the future, whether from Pocket or IDW or other sources. And I appreciate supportive thoughts and messages. Many people are going through the dark forest in this country at this time; I hope we can all make it safely and swiftly through to the other side.

Why not drop a line to Abaddon, Angry Robot or Black Library in the UK - they'd be right up your street?

I'll PM you some email addresses you might find of interest

Good luck I hope everything works out

Wow, sorry to hear about this. I hope things start to look up soon. I've enjoyed your Trek work and I hope KM isn't the last we get from you.

Andy, the very best to you. I've greatly enjoyed your work and I sincerely hope that things improve for you very soon.

S'Truth. :( Many are up a creek without a paddle. That certainly makes one feel marginally better to not be alone, but doesn't solve the immediate problem that one may have.

If we can help in any way, let us know.

You CANT be sick....
We need to know what you're doing with Section 31
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
All the best, old friend

I'm sorry to hear about your recent troubles. I wish you good health and the best of luck.

Fans of Andy's writing will be pleased to know that he's going to be in upcoming issues of Star Trek Magazine...

Shame on you ClayinCA for taking someone's private business and posting it on here. I realize it was posted elsewhere first, but you made a deliberate choice to post it here.

Andy -- I am a huge fan of your work and I wish you all the best. Hang in there -- I look forward to reading more of your work in the near future! :)

I don't get why you're bagging on ClayinCA who is linking to a site that talks about Andy trying to sell something. It's not as if it's a secret or something. Andy himself obviously put the word out somewhere/somehow.
