Andorian Info

Hey guys, quick question.

Does anyone know any sites that have good info on Andorians? In particular, I'm looking for information on their naming conventions and sexes. I know the DS9 post-finale books and some others have quite a bit of information on this topic, but I don't have most of them, and Memory Alpha and Beta aren't helping as much as I was hoping they would.

Thanks in advance. (I have a sneaking suspicion Therin will be able to provide some help. ;))

Thanks to both of you. Somehow I didn't stumble on that page when I looked on Memory Beta, and I'd forgotten Therin had that site.

Seeing as I'm new here, I felt like asking. Why do you love the Andorians, Therin? I'm curious as to why they're your chosen people, so to speak. Is there an interesting story there?

I came to ST via ST: TMP, having seen only random episodes of TOS, and most of TAS (in b/w, because colour TV didn't come to Australia till 1975). Seeing a few blue faces in the rec deck scenes, and in the TMP gum cards, going back to the cinema several times to find the three Andorian ambassadors wandering through the San Francisco airtram scene - and then reading descriptions of TOS Andorians in reference books, such as the "ST Concordance" and "Medical Reference Manual" - made me intrigued, and reminded me that I'd seen an animated Andorian Starfleet character in "Yesteryear" (TAS). That made me go off on a long quest, all over Sydney, to find the dimly remembered View-Master reel of "Mr Spock's Time Trek", which I'd recalled seeing in a toy shop once.

Then I had to have a Star Trek costume for a theme day at the monthly ST marathons, and my Andorian costume won! People spent the whole day asking me if I'd seen "Journey to Babel", and I hadn't, of course, but someone did sell me a Thelev badge, and I was curious as to why one of his antennae wasn't visible in the shot. And the mysteries deepened...

:bolian: Brilliant, thank you Therin. I find it very interesting when people have particular passions like this, and I guessed yours would be good for a story. You are the Therin who gave his name to the park on Andor, right?

You are the Therin who gave his name to the park on Andor, right?

My character was created in 1980, graduated to captain in my first ST fanfic not long after, and his politician Dad appeared on a ST convention debating team not long after. Therin turned up at Sydney premieres for ST II, III and IV, a few more fan stories, hosted a few game shows at conventions, and then he faded away when I grew a dark beard. (Meaning I had to start portraying Klingons and Tellarites instead!)

By 2002, the beard was gone (went grey) and I was invited to play Senator Therin (presumably Therin's Dad again) in the fanfilm, "Starship Exeter: The Savage Empire", sending my role over to Jimm Johnson on videotape to be inserted into their footage!

So, I'm not sure if Heather Jarman named Therin Park for the captain, or his father, or some other relative. The park has since been mentioned in two other ST novels, but I'm not game to go into any more detail, 'cos I'm not supposed to boast about stuff like that. (It was a buzz to get referenced in some actual licensed tie-ins, though.)

Thanks for taking the time to fill me in, Therin!

they're male. from when Andorian men were Andorian men and Andorian women were Andorian women. and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri were small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri.

There's also a Therin in Ex Machina whose full name is Shantherin th'Clane, obviously also named after our favorite Aussie. He's obviously a thaan for what it's worth.
