And the next three 2009 DVD releases are...

Lonemagpie

Writer
In Memoriam
With the "next time" trailers certified by the BBFC:

The Rescue/The Romans boxed set
The Twin Dilemma
Attack Of The Cybermen

Which will mean Colin is the first classic series Doctor to have his entire era on DVD

Not surprising considering he has the least serials (although The Seventh has only one more).

That's true. And I quite like Colin's serials anyhow. He's usually the least favourite Doctor but I've always enjoyed his era.

Hm. Have we heard anything about the release dates for R1? They kinda need to pick it up a bit with so many releases in R2.

^ You guys really need to get multi-region DVD players. :)

Luckily for us Aussies we are only a month or 2 behind the UK releases.

Depends what you're looking for - Four to Doomsday and The War Machines have already been announced for the beginning of January, so when they come out we'll only be one release (Battlefield) behind the UK.

And is there any guarantee that those stories will be the next ones to come out? Remember how many times Trial was advertised as coming soon...

The Rescue and The Romans? Woohoo! Spread the Hartnell love!

Bah. I want The Chase dammit.

Then my pathetically small collection will be complete.

To clarify, I said 'pathetically small COLLECTION'.

Unfortunately, such beasties aren't quite as prevalent here as elsewhere. Perhaps more importantly, while most PAL TVs can handle NTSC signals, it's a rare NTSC TV that can handle a PAL signal.

Best moment of 2007 was when my brother discovered an easily-hacked DVD player in his closet. No one knows how it got there, but I was finally able to watch my copy of the TVM! (And Derek Jacobi's Hamlet.)

I'm not sure it's as rare these days - I managed to play a region-free PAL DVD on my mother-in-law's TV; and I know she wouldn't have paid too much for it :)

At the same time, while it's not perfect, I think most players that can be hacked for multi-region can convert the picture from PAL to NTSC as well.

A few years ago multi region players weren't as wide spread over in the US and Canada, but now there are some cheaper models which can be easily hacked - in fact there was one player which was set to Region 0 out of the box (apparently this was a deliberate albeit unadvertised feature). Which was nice for my R2 DVDs, but a pain for some Fox R1 DVDs - since the player wasn't set to R1 it refused to play the DVD. Although I never quite figured out why setting the DVD to Region 0 via the remote didn't bring up this same message...
