The PT established that Anakin was the one who would bring balance to the Force. How faithful do you feel TLJ is to this plot point?

One can argue that Luke, as Anakin's son, has realized that true balance in the Force requires a mix of light and dark, and not absolutes as previous thought. He passes this on to Rey, who will lead the next generation of Jedi. In that sense, Anakin did indeed bring balance.

    Thoughts?

Just because someone brings balance to the Force, doesn't mean that balance lasts forever.

That's even if he did, or if the prophecy is worth anything. Whose prophecy is it? How reliable where they with other stuff? And what was the exact wording and details of the original prophecy? Religions often have prophecies that are bunk but seem to fit contemporary events.

Is "Jedi" really a religion, though? The only people who ever referred to it as such were those who simply intended to downplay its significance: Imperial soldiers, Han Solo, and in TLJ, Luke. Forgive me if this was established in the Disney cartoons, because I don't follow those.

As far as I'm concerned, Anakin is the Chosen One. End of question.

Are any of you guys aware that the words "good" and "evil" still exist? Because this penchant for color metaphors is really getting excessive.

It is referred to as the Light Side and Dark Side of the Force. Why? Because neither side is inherently "good" or "evil", but instead two sides of the same thing, the Yin and the Yang, which is typically modelled as one side of it light and one side of it dark, but with the opposites in a small point inside the other. Both the light and the dark sides of the Force can be used for Good and Evil.

Anakin fulfilled the prophecy about killing the Sith when he killed Palpatine and then he himself came back to the light, according to the TLJ Visual Dictionary.

The Sith may be gone, but that doesn't mean it can't go back out of balance.

Even when there are Sith, it's barely more than two people at a time.

Jedi were numbering into the hundreds of thousands at their height.

    That is not Balance.

Trim the Jedi down to three dudes, or recruit a hundred thousand Sith.

    Balance.

George kept changing his mind about balance over the years, sometimes he said no sith meant balance, sometimes he said both light and dark were balance.

Could we have a source for this (other than the Mortis arc from Clone Wars)?

I don't agree. The dark side, by its very nature, invites and is attracted to evil. Although I do concede that users of the light side can become arrogant and complacent like the Jedi had done. Let's put it this way, I view the dark side as universally evil, but the light side I suppose isn't 100% good (I'd say more like 90%).

And yet there are certain powers, such as Force lightning, which are pretty much exclusive to the dark side because their use is inherently corrupting to the user and causes (often intentional) excess pain to the victim. (You never see Jedi using force lightning, do ya?)

No but you see Luke use grip/choke on a guard in Jabba's palace.

^ But a Force choke isn't as blatantly obvious as lightning.

I'm sure that a choke can be a relatively quick and painless method of rendering somebody unconscious (kind of like a Vulcan nerve pinch) if the user intends it to be. But lightning is specifically made to cause pain and suffering and torture.

Force choke. Basically what you're saying is that someone is using telekinesis to choke someone?

I just realized that Qui-Gon Jinn was the only character who didn't use words like "dark side of the Force". He had never compartmentalized the Force. He just called it the Force.

There just hasn't been a time a Jedi has needed Force Lightning for anything. I'd think that be amazing for jump starting a speeder.

Agree with above. At the time, there were a ton of Jedi and only 2 Sith. Anakin got everyone but Yoda and Obi-Wan killed, so balanced it right there :)
