An Evening(s) With Kevin Smith

I've gotten a hold of and have watched the various Kevin Smith Q&A sessions on DVD and really found them quite hilarious. Even if Kevin Smith has a tendency to... go on and on and on, the funniest being in "Too Fat for 40" (post the SW Airlines incidents) where he's asked one question at the beginning about working with Willis on "Cop Out" and Kevin goes into a very long discussion about him becoming a real stoner for the first time ever, all the troubles he had working on Cop Out, to the SWA incident, to being arrested for trying to bring marijuana into Canada and an incident with the police in his L.A. home. Probably the "worst" of the DVDs, but much of the SWA stuff was covered in the 2-hour long SMODCAST he made shortly after the incident.

Anyway, found all of these videos to be great and funny and really shows how much of a "story teller" Kevin Smith can be and it's shame I don't think his last few movies haven't really reflected that. Nothing really beats the View Askewniverse movies/"Jersey Trilogy."

Anyway, along similar lines, it's also good news to see that "Comic Book Men" has be renewed!

Re: An Evening(s) Kevin Smith

I've only seen the first An Evening With DVD...the one where he talks about his experience writing "Superman Lives" and working with Tim Burton. Hilarious stuff. I've missed three times now Kevin Smith in Vancouver, the latest being his appearance here in Feb. I vow not to miss the next one! Great news about "Comic Book Men".

Yeah, it was renewed for an actual, full, season (for a cable show, anyway) with 16 episodes.

That's awesome. I wonder if they'll tweak the show a bit?

I don't think it really needs it, it was pretty good itself. I enjoyed the podcast segments a bit more than the Pawn Stars-like segments but even those got interesting from time to time (more so when a purchase was made rather than someone selling an item.)

I do remember hearing Smith say that if they got a second season he'd like to show them going to cons and stuff.

I've only seen the first one, but I enjoyed it a lot. The recounting of his experiences on Superman Lives was probably the best part.

I saw the first 2 Evening with Kevin DVDs... but forgot about picking up the follow-ons...

Thanks for the reminder. And good news about Comic Book Men.

First one is absolutely brilliant

I nearly died of laughter at several points.. i like his self deprecating style but he's so much into pop culture and the geek/slacker lifestyle that there is zero chance of boring stories.

Highlights are his tales about his brief Superman stint, how he met Prince (and how he supposedly really is), how he met his future wife (and boy does he go into detail.. i was thinking "Kevin.. you will pay for this story at home" and he did which he later revealed in another Q&A etc.

It's also cool how he engages with the audience and explains his reasoning.. i remember this one lesbian who had an issue with "Chasing Amy" and the misogynistic attitude of Banky Edwards when he claimed that all a lesbian really needs is a good dick.. Smith explained it really well that this statement coming from the idiot of the movie invalidates the statement automatically.
It gave me a small insight into movie writing and the way Smith tells it is also quite funny.
