Amy's New Job? [SPOILER]

That first image in the thread is kind of evicative. It might have been interesting not to have Amy and Rory in the episode but rather have different posters and ads of Any featured throughout the episode. Maybe they could have somehow given the Doctor a clue or something.

Not only is it a very pleasant smell, it is commercially available.
No, it's not that pleasant of a smell. Distinctive, sure, but not drop-your-panties wonderful by any stretch of the imagination.
QFT.

Don't get me wrong, I like the smell of dust after rain. But I wouldn't be turned on by it if a woman were wearing it as a perfume. I think about the only person in all of fiction would get off on it would be Pamela Isley, better known to Bat-fans as Poison Ivy.

Petrichor perfume is like those Star Trek perfumes and colognes; it's a nice idea, but it's really something of a gag concept, not for serious use. :)

Amy could've been discovered by an agency rep and signed up for a modelling contract in only a few weeks and then with some appearances in TV ads become moderately famous inside 6-8 months. it's not that unreasonable.

look how many so-called celebrities there are in Britain just for appearing in shitty reality shows like X Factor, Pop Idol, BGT or worse still TOWIE.

The name of the fragrance and the slogan (and perhaps even the little girl wanting an autograph) suggests that Amy was more than just the model for an ad campaign.

Honestly, it's nice to see a Companion in the modern series with an actual career (can't speak to the classic show). Rose and Donna were both pretty much catch-as-catch-can, job-wise. The closest we've gotten was Sarah Jane (a freelance journalist, but mostly volunteer alien-problem-solver) and Martha (who decided to give up doctoring to shoot things for reasons that have never been adequately explored).

Well, let's see... Barbara and Ian were school teachers, Steven was an astronaut, Polly was a secretary and Ben was a merchant seaman.

Zoe was a mathematician, Liz was a scientist, Sarah Jane was a journalist and Harry was a medic.

Tegan was a stewardess. Mel was a fitness instructor. Grace was a doctor.

I think that about covers it...

And perhaps Leela took up the Doctor's comment that she'd make a proficient assassin.

Mel was a computer programmer. She just happened to be really into fitness.

captcalhoun, emh is correct. I was responding to the "can't speak for the classic series" remark. It seems to me that NuWho has actually done a pretty good job of giving the companions back stories. Did we EVER see a member of a Classic Who companion's family, other than Tegan's aunt and Nyssa's father (both of whom were killed by the Master)?

We saw Ace's mother and grandmother. We also saw Tegan's cousin and didn't we see Peri's stepfather in Planet of Fire?

On the whole though I don't think it was much thought about, because frankly the focus was on what crazy adventure can we have this week, not 'I wonder what mum's having for tea.'

The inclusion of Rose's family was a bit of a breath of fresh air, especially with the year she was missing, but unfortunately RTD thought it was such a good idea that he did it again...and then again (although kudos cos we wouldn't have had Wilf if he hadn't)

Thought y'all might find this little Twitter exchange to be interesting...

@steven_moffat So, he brings Amy back to Earth so she and Rory can be safe, and she becomes a MODEL???!!!

@steven_moffat
@cooliobeanz A model, you say? Pay attention.

I liked the tag-line on the poster "for the woman who doesn't like to wait"

For the girl who's tired of waiting.

He's saying she owns the perfume company and isn't just the model. The name and slogan are the indications.
