Amy did the good episodes of Girlmore Girls, so this Amazon Prime series is more of that, but set in the 1960s, without a hint of that Teen Angst crap which was pouring out of Rory's eyes, ears and nose. That kid was unbearable, and I have no idea why Paris didn't grind her down into a dozen hamburger patties.

A 60s house wife freaks out over her husbands infidelity, ranting on stage about the unfairness of the world, to the applause of all, and then decides to become a comedienne to become fulfilled, now that her jerk husband has run off with a younger woman.

They talk really fast, I recognise most of the actors, and it's a really coulourful journey. :)

Oh and Alex "Lois from family Guy" Borstein is amazing.

AS-P can be equal parts brilliant and full of herself. I loved Gilmore Girls (I grew up with it and was the same age as Rory in the show so it will forever hold a place in my heart). Even with the annoying flaws (and on rewatches, it really becomes apparent that Rory goes from adorable daughter to a spoiled brat), the dilemmas it put the characters into were realistic. I always appreciated that about it. It was realistic that Dean acted like a jealous idiot, because teen boys often do. It was realistic that Rory would date an idiot like Jess, and later fall for an idiot like Logan. It was realistic that along the way, she'd lose sight of who she was, thanks to the world she was trying to mix with (and Logan's dumb crowd). So in between the fantasy small-town stuff and light-speed dialogue, there was some real meat there. There were also some frustrating contrivances and attempts to be too clever.

But on the whole, I like what she does. This new show is getting good reviews, so I'll give it a shot. Looking forward to it.

Somewhat undecided by the trailer, but absolutely adore Bunheads, so I'll definitely give this a shot.

Mostly full of herself.

Bunheads was amazing, it's not as good as Bunheads. I would give it a watch, the first so called 'season' is only 8 episodes. I'm really getting sick and tired of networks picking up shows for two 'seasons' that are only like 7-8 episodes a year. Annoying.

I enjoy the show, it's not as good as everyone thinks it is. Love the cast though.

Bunheads/Gilmore Girls split the stories across three generations.

The Marvellous Miss Maisel, is mostly rooted in... Midge is only 26... And Suzie is hiding her real age very well with boys clothings, despite letting drop general knowledge once that is usually only available to older people.

The in-laws are fantastic, but they are bit players. :)

A critique about the Gilmore Girls that has always been present is that Amy thinks that she is writing a 1940s movie full of Jimmy Cagneys and Veronica Lakes.

Watched it and liked it a lot. Loved the period setting, loved the acting, mostly liked the story. Even the dumbass husband is written realistically. He's a dumbass but you understand where he's coming from. We've all known people like him. And in the end, while he's jealous (and envious) of Midge and her success, he can still realize that she's legitimately good.

I liked this a hell of a lot. The people felt real. The situations felt real. A few times it had that "I'm AS-P and I'm clever!" feel to it, but not as often as Gilmore Girls. And Tony Shalhoub as the dad made me LOL more than once. I'm not Jewish but I've read enough Herman Wouk to understand the sort of world that this show inhabits. And it was funny.

The only thing I wish I could've seen more of is Midge being a mother.

Tony Shalhoub is the main reason I stuck with the show. I'd watch him in nearly anything. I watched Braindead because of him and that turned out to be a fantastic show.

Midge is a HORRIBLE mother. She never sees her children at all, she just ditches them for 15 hours a day so she can go to parties. But I think they don't show the children too much is because if there are only 8 episodes a season, and it takes a year for a new show, the children might grow up faster than the plot of the show. The less you see of them the easier it is for them to be replaced with a new younger version.

I enjoy that we hardly ever see her kids. The less of them, the better. However I do think it’s weird that Joel never takes the baby overnight, only the three year old.

I love how the show is about Midge forging her own path in life. Her friendship with Suzie is great too.

I also love her clothes and the soundtrack is amazing!

My wife and I love this show, she's gotten everybody in her office to watch it. I'd seen Rachel Brosnahan before in House of Cards and didn't recognize her here. The 50's fashion suits her well.

I watched the first four episodes yesterday. I like it.

I agree that Midge isn't a great mom, though a lot could be happening off-screen.

Given what else we see of her, I can't imagine she isn't an amazing mother. The kids are basically irrelevant to the drama outside of being part of the complication of her husband leaving her though, so their limited screen-time is appropriate. She has family, she has full-time help, the kids are taken care of a lot better than most even if she isn't by their side every hour of the day. Does anyone really want to see the episode where she has to balance a gig and her makeup counter job against the baby having the croup?

All that said, I am in love with this show and with Midge Maisel. If you haven't watched it yet you're doing yourself a disservice.
