Amiga 2000HD... SCORE!

Plecostomus

Commodore
Just landed a fully functional AMIGA 2000HD computer for $5.

Looks like it was set up to do video editing and F/X work, I haven't finished digging through all the boxes yet. Four boxes are JUST floppy-disks, one box is chips, boards and hard-drives, and there is a box of camera things along with a HUGE-ass VCR.

For $5.

So.

Who knows anything at all about Amiga? I got it to turn on, that's about it. :D

Check out this game called Starflight. The they made an Amiga version and a DOS version, and the Amiga version is better. I've played it a bit with an Amiga emulator on windows, but it has a bad habit of crashing. Cool game, though. That's about all I know, friendo.

My goodness this thing is slow... but its graphics are amazing considering its age!

The OS is a bit like Linux, a touch like DOS, yet totally distinct from either. Amazing piece of technology. :techman:

MorphOS (Amiga) was making huge strides years ago as an upcoming opensource OS, but I haven't heard anything about it years. Probably fizzled out I guess.

Well this is a vintage one, I'm not 100% sure I booted it right. Apparently it boots off the HD to a OS, but in order to do anything with the disks I have I have to boot with a floppy marked "Workbench."

Time to RTFM I guess. :D

Just looked it up. That model was first released over 20 years ago, and has only 9 MB of RAM. 5 bucks is still good, if you plan on making good use of it.

This site has a few pics for anyone who is interested in seeing what an Amiga 2000HD looks like. Heh, it sure takes me back...

Never had an Amiga, but a friend of mine's dad did, we played games on it all the time witha joystick, loved it

Well after poking it for awhile, it turns out this computer was used to make the graphics for the weather report on the Local News here! I found a weather report from 1991 with maps and everything.

Wonder if any of these extra pieces actually CONTROL the weather.... :D

why is it snowing in August? ;)

Still got ours (though it's a 500+). Worked well enough for all my work at college and had some decent games too.

I miss my 500+ the screen modulator died so I took the computer in for repair (not knowing at the time it was just the modulator). Never saw the thing again, I'm sure the guy butchered it for parts then refused to acknowledge I ever took it in...

That's a shame:(

I don't use ours regularly nowadays but I still bring it out from time to time.

Search on Google for free Amiga games and go to town!

I especially recommend Speedball 2 (or anything else done by Bullfrog).. there simply isn't a better game :techman:

Ah.. the old days. An Amiga 2000 was my first computer and the night before i got him i couldn't sleep and went sleepwalking
I played the shit out of it (i was a kid after all) and had tons of disks lying around.. later on i programmed a bit in Basic but most of the time i played games.. even upgraded the RAM to be able to play better games

well not to brag or anything but I was the LA Amiga users group president, for many years before the big fall....

went through a 500, a 1000, a 1200, a 2000, a 3000, and 4000 which is set-up back in the office..

k'riq

I still have an Amiga 1200 lurking around somewhere....

I used to write music on it before PC's got decent soundcards/software. Four audio channels and 8-bit samples to play with...limiting, but fun!

WOB seems to have taken over the Amiga, it's "hers" according to our most recent conversation. :D

That leaves me to play poorly emulated versions Commodore 64 of Chernobyl and Strip Poker II on my laptop. :( :p
